Chunk out of car tyre side wall

I’ve spotted a chunk missing from one of the other half’s car tyres. I assume any sidewall damage like this isn’t good, but this almost looks like a sacrificial raised rim on the tyre (okay, it probably isn’t, but I’m wondering why there’s a raised rim). I thought I’d seek some alternate view...

Baxi Duo-Tec 40 combi valve configuration query?

Ah gotcha. Yes, it’s been that way on the boilers I’ve had in previous home. I think perhaps because I’d tinkered with valve 1 as well I’d convinced myself 1 and 2 were the two valves to use rather than 2 and 3. I’ve clearly been a bit dumb but I’m glad I asked and thanks for your explanation. :)

Baxi Duo-Tec 40 combi valve configuration query?

Thanks folks, grand advice. I only messed with valve 1 because valve 2 was so stiff and I doubted myself whether it was the right one. Can I ask why valve 3 is best off being closed? It seems to function okay as-is at the moment? Cheers!

Baxi Duo-Tec 40 combi valve configuration query?

Hi all … I recently had to top up the pressure in our Baxi Duo Tec. At first I adjusted valves 3&4 on the attached photo in error, then corrected myself and adjusted 1&2 to top up the pressure. At this point I was interrupted by a neighbour and managed to reconfigure the valves so there was no...

Daisy chain of LED battens with one connection point

I’ve got some 5ft Luceco T8 Climate eco LED battens (link below), but they’ve only got a single pre-drilled connection at one end. There are no obvious knockouts at the top or other end. Ideally I’d like to drill an opening at the other end and feed a three core cable through to allow this light...

Mira bar mixer shower leaking outside of hose

Hi I wondered if anyone can help diagnose what’s going on with my Mira bar mixer shower. I’ve noticed it leaking down from the outlet connector and dripping off the hose. Naturally my first action was to replace the hose washer, but it carried on leaking (a slow drip every 5-10 secs). It’s not...

Baxi boiler repressurising query (first time user of an existing system)

Yeah, I managed to sort it this morning. Took the cap off any used grips to shift it, but once it was moving the lever seems to cope okay - I definitely wasn’t being gentle when I was trying yesterday! At least I know for future reference.

Brilliant, thanks denso13 and oldbuffer, I'll give that a go in the morning! :)

Baxi boiler repressurising query (first time user of an existing system)

Hello all ... we recently moved into a new house and have a Baxi duo tec combi boiler. After bleeding the radiators I've come to top up the boiler assuming I could easily work it out but have hit a stumbling block. There are a number of valves to open, but one of them is pretty stuck fast and...

Bathroom mixer Tap head slipping - can’t work out how to tighten?!

Cool, thank you, I’ll give it a go later. I didn’t want to get to brute force without checking what was best first.

Bathroom mixer Tap head slipping - can’t work out how to tighten?!

This may be a bit of a daft/easy question so you’ve been warned... Our visitors were a bit rough with our bathroom taps and the head seems to be slipping now. By that I mean that the hot water turns on okay (turn through 90 degrees is full “on”), but when you come to turn it off, it moves past...

Shower extractor light replaced but not working - best next steps?

I’m pretty sure I went to match the wattage of the bulb I was replacing, but maybe I didn’t manage (it was a few weeks ago now). 3W seem relatively uncommon but I guess I’ll give one a go to see before taking the ceiling unit apart. Seems odd to me to have a transformer with such a low rating...

Shower extractor light replaced but not working - best next steps?

The fan is fine. I assume the Q&A is correct because the response is from the manufacturer, Aurora. Unless the transformer can’t cope with a 5W bulb (I now notice that the spec says 3W...but I did choose this bulb because it was a similar spec to the old one, so I assumed it would be fine).

Shower extractor light replaced but not working - best next steps?

I think the old bulb is gone with the bin men now! The new bulb is this one, which (in the Q&A) claims to be DC or AC?!? https://www.screwfix.com/p/enlite-gu5-3-mr16-led-light-bulb-500lm-5w/8010p
