    Vaillant VRC 430f really slow!!

Hi all. As part of a new boiler install I have the VRC 430F controller. I can’t believe how frustratingly slow this thing is! For example if I scroll to the heating time section the backlight actually times out before it displays the times the heating it set for. I’ve never known as controller...

    12V Downlights and Dimmer Issue

Thanks all. These lights have been in for a couple of years. They were here before we moved in. We haven't made any changes at all. My girlfriend just said she was in there one day with the lights dimmed and they made a nice like a computer system shutdown sort of noise and went off. She...

    12V Downlights and Dimmer Issue

We have 6 12v 50w down lights in our kitchen. The switch is a dimmer switch, previously we used to be able to dim very low. Now as you turn the dimmer down they just turn off at say 20w for example. At other times we have been in there in morning and had them quite dim and they just turn...

    Plasterboard Ceiling Levelling advice.

Thanks all. I wanted to insulate the floor yesterday but I couldn't get the tongue and groove floorboards up so rather than giving up I corrected this. Used plywood strips and its as good as perfect now. Felt like a bit of waste of time but I didn't want to look up every time always wishing...

    Plasterboard Ceiling Levelling advice.

After an insulation project in my bedroom I've re-boarded the ceiling with 12.5mm board to find that one of the joists is sitting exactly 1 cm high. IE if I put a long sprit level across from the neighbouring joists there is a 1cm gap. Will this show after its been plastered? I'll take it...

How to safely insulate this? With pictures

I think I'm going to fit three vent tiles http://www.kloeber-home.de/uk/products.php?products_id=25 so the vents will come though the slopped felt you can see in the picture. I believe this is my only option to safely reduce the chance of condensation without changing to breathable felt. If...

How to safely insulate this? With pictures

Thanks alittlerespect. I think I'm low on options here. Behind this slope you can see in the pictures is a single storey flat roof extension. So there are no eaves to ventilate. I actually don't see how I can ventilate the space. Leaving the 50mm gap without ventilation sounds like a...

How to safely insulate this? With pictures

I'm finally doing this part of the room! I'm a bit concerned the 50mm air gap behind the celotex could be a condensation risk because unlike the diagram of a normal roof from freddymercurystwin my dormer isn't ventilated at all. I assume this will make a big difference. I was thinking of...

Buying Wood for insulation battons - Its Wet

Cheers, its external walls. Upgrading with 50mm of celotex boards/vapour barrier then plasterboard. I found tonight that homebase have there wood inside so will probably get it there rather than waiting weeks for it to dry. Good call about using the treated stuff.

Buying Wood for insulation battons - Its Wet

I want to by something like 25x50mm battons to be used on the walls which the insulation boards will be screwed too. The only place I can think it get it is travis perkins for example. The problem is its outside and soaking wet, surely I cant put this behind the insulation? What do...

whats a fair price for plastering a full kitchen?

I wish I could get a plasterer for £100 a day and for £60 I'd happily labour. Our old kitchen was re plastered for £280 I think, only slightly bigger. Didn't take him long. Amazing finish though.

    Vibrating Dormer Room

That would cost a fortune, scaffolding, taking all the tiles off etc. I'd rather put up with the vibrating or hope the cross batterns help. What about I put plywood on the inside then insulation / vapour barrier and plasterboard? Is there any point?

How to safely insulate this? With pictures

Thanks that makes sense. So insulation between the ceiling joists to stop the heat from downstairs going straight out that 90cm section of ceiling. Then 50mm celotex insulation in between the joists in the bedroom side leaving the sloped roof joists as they are now. Then more celotex over...

How to safely insulate this? With pictures

How can I safely insulate the back of this dormer? It slops back about 90cm. I was thinking 50mm of celotex in between the sloped joists leaving a 50 mm gap behind. Then filling the gap between the floor joists which is the living room below with loft insulation. Is this ok...
