    Would this https://www.roofingsheetsbyrhino.com/product/box-profile-wall-cladding-manufactured-to-size/ be suitable?

Garden office - wood, block or something else?

So, if I were to go with wood, I should construct a wooden frame and attach cladding to that, insulate and then put ply on the inside. In terms of the cladding, I was thinking either wooden tongue and groove (aparently vertical is best) or upvc. Given that I am not going to be able to access...

Garden office - wood, block or something else?

Hello. I am considering building a garden office in the space currently occupied by my shed and some decking. It is surrounded on 3 sides by fences, so I was wondering the best way to build it. I initially looked at SIPs, but having spoken to a couple of companies, it seems that site is too...

Using wet/dry vacuum to clean gutters

The gutters aren't particularly accessible, plus one of the downpipes is clogged, so I thought this might be a solution. Certainly looks like the "long bent tube" is the problem. Extension hoses for wet/dry vacs are more expensive that the vac

Using wet/dry vacuum to clean gutters

Hello. I need my gutters and downpipes cleaned and I saw that the pros use specialist gutter vacs, which are pretty pricey. However, the specs for the actual vacs don't look any different to the wet/dry vacs that you can get for under £100. Am I missing something? Thanks, Carl

    Replacing 17mm groove drawer runners

Hi. Unfortunately, I think those are pretty much the same, as the rating, per runner, is only 10kg. Regards, Carl

    Replacing 17mm groove drawer runners

Hi. The drawers have grooves on each side that are 17mm wide that the runners fit into. They look like these: http://www.eurofitdirect.co.uk/17mm-mini-slide-ikea-drawer-runner Unfortunately, all the ones I can find online are rated for 10kg, which just don't seem to be sturdy enough. I...

    Replacing 17mm groove drawer runners

Hello I have a wardrobe that has 4 drawers that use 17mm groove drawer runners. Over the last few years I have had to replace the runners on numerous occasions. I was wondering if there was a better solution, because all the runners that fit all seem to be rather light-weight. Thanks...

    Extractor fan at floor level

Thanks for your replies. The "Plan" is to replace the dryer at some point, but not any time soon. So the extractor fan is a short term solution Carl

    Extractor fan at floor level

Hello. I am in the process of moving my washing machine and tumble dryer into my garage. The tumble dryer is a condenser model, but generates a far amount of condensation, so I am intending to put a humidity-controlled extractor fan in the garage. The garage has a number of existing...

    Building regs for laundry chute

Hello. I am thinking about putting a laundry chute from an upstairs toilet into my garage/utility room. I was wondering if there were any relevant building regs I should be aware of. Because the upstairs toilet isn't really big enough to for the chute, I was thinking of having a...

Plumbing bath hot and cold taps

Hi, I was recently talking to a plumber about replacing my bath and he mentioned that there was a relatively new requirement that hot and cold taps need to be linked to prevent the water coming out of the hot tap being too warm. However, I have been unable to find any more information...

    Foundations for first floor extension

Thanks for the response. Assuming the foundations do need underpinning, presumably the first task is to dig a trench exposing all of the existing foundations that need underpinning? If so, how wide would this trench have to be? The reason I am asking is that the access is quite limited...

    Foundations for first floor extension

Hi. I have a single storey extension that was built before I bought my house. It is probably 30 years old and there is no record of it at the council. I would like to build on top of it and I understand that I might need stronger foundations. However, before I set out digging...
