    Inset gas fire.

l want to tile around an inset gas fire that sits about 450mm off the floor using 30cm square tiles, l know l need to start in the centre and work out left to right but do l also need to work from the centre point of the fire top to bottom. Go half mid way down means l'll end up with less than...

    Damp patch

I've had a problem with a small amount of damp(1980's detatched bungalow)it's just above the skirting...about ½" high for about a foot, there used to be an old gas fire in the same spot so that section of wall was previously hidden. I've done some digging(literally) and removed the internal...

    Damp under gas fire

I had an inset gas fire installed a while back but not really used it much, recently noticed a small patch of damp just above the skirting below the fire...l initially thought it was rain coming down the old redundant flue but have since ruled that out. Could it be from condensation forming on...

    Gas fire flue(redundant)

There seems to be quite a large gap under that cowl part and we've had lots of heavy sideways rain recently, clearly not a lot of rain going down if any, as the damp is pretty minimal. If the old fire had been in situ where would any rain go if it entered the flue?

    Gas fire flue(redundant)

Thanks...l can't easily vent the bottom as it is inside the wall cavity, the top is easy enough to do though from inside the loft. The whole length of urastone(asbestos) flue is inside the loft so not much point boxing it in. I"m wondering if l'm on the right track as l thought the cowl over the...

    Gas fire flue(redundant)

Hi all, l had an old(80's) gas fire removed from my bungalow, it had a brick flue that ran up about 8ft through the wall cavity, into the loft space leading to a ridge vent. The fire was replaced with a new fanned flue item that vents through the external wall only. All has been ok but recently...

    Gas fire flue

We had an old gas fire removed from our 80's bungalow and it was replaced with a fanned flue item. The old pre cast flue was left in situ in the loft as the installer seemed to think it may be asbestos...the flue was left unblocked at the bottom, now with heavy rain l have noticed a small...

    Advice on laying 300x600 tiles

Starting some tiling on our entrance hall and hallway with some 300x600 tiles, entrance hall is about 10ft wide x 12ft deep, then does a 90 along the hallway which is about 4-5ft wide, what's the best/usual way to lay these sort of tiles around a corner?...do I go across the width of the...

    help with adhesive

Thanks for the reply tpt...because of the size of tile, 300x600, do I need something special...I've seen some adhesives described as "large format" and I've seen others that are "not suitable for tiles larger than 300x300" .....the tiles I have are described as porcelain...again do I need a...

    help with adhesive

I'm about to set to tiling our hallway (concrete)with some 300x600 porcelain tiles but finding the whole adhesive thing a bit of a minefield. There seems to be loads of quick set products but because I'm no professional tiler I have concerns that the adhesive will start to go off before I get...
