Advice on painting a damp patch

Hi, we had a small roof leak that left a small patch on a bedroom ceiling. The leak was fixed over a year ago so everything is thoroughly dry now. I have just repainted using Dulux magic white rich matt. No surprise the stain was still visible. I covered the stain area and a little beyond...

    Electrical Safety

I was always taught not to use too many plug in double sockets or plug in gangs for safety reasons. Is the following ok? Single socket with 13 amp fused 4 way extension with a TV, video, stereo, and a double doofer with a clock and phone charger. All on the upstairs ring main which is RCD...

    Tiling to bath

sealant always seams to end up going black within a year so I'm reluctant to use it. However with a placky bath and 2 kids jumping around at least it has that bit of flex that grout doesn't.

    Tiling to bath

My new bath is fixed and sealed with clear silicone. I am about to fix the bottom course of tiles to finish the job. I left the last course of tiles at approx 10 cm and am cutting to fit (although most of them are exactly the same). What i need to know is - should I cut for a very snug fit and...

    Shower conduit

Thanks Breezer. I will run a new 6mm earth. Since I have such a mix of copper and plastic it would probably be best whilst I have the opportunity. cheers

    Shower conduit

OK lets make sure I'm getting this right. In the bathroom the hot is from the tank and the cold is direct from the mains rather than the header tank. I have replaced all the pipes with plastic so therefore have bonded from the copper b4 the plastic to the copper after the plastic where it...

    Shower conduit

Is it OK to run the electric supply cable for a shower (10mm) inside chromed pipe? It would look much better than the white plastic trunking and would match the water pipe. I was going to use 22mm chromed tubing usually used for wardrobe rails. What would be the best way of protecting the cable...

    Bend in taps

No, its standard 15mm copper pipe. The main run goes just under the floor board, the line to the tap T's off at a downward angle (-45 degrees) and the spur then u-bends back up through the floorboard to the tap. It could just be to save a joint or maybe its just easier to do? So long as its...

    Garage doors

Thanks - they are exactly what I need at £15. Although I've now got someone coming round to supply, fit and generally service for £45. Bargain as it would probably take me a whole weekend.

    Bend in taps

Is there any reason why taps are plumbed in with a bendy bit going down before coming up through the floor? Can you just go straight up with an elbow?

    Garage doors

Any one know about garage doors? Up and over witn a big spring, cones and wires. Are the cones and/or wires easy to get hold of and replace?

    Drain vent

No I have not got the space. The waste pipe is internal and I want to cap it off and vent out the side so that I can get the cistern and wc flush on to the wall. There is just enough room to get the pan over the top of the waste pipe. Thanks for the suggestion though

    Drain vent

I am replacing a toilet and the vent comes out of the top of a 4 boss single branch fitting via a 110 to 82 reducer. It then goes through 2 bends b4 going up and out the roof. It is off set from the down pipe by about 18 inches. This was all internal and boxed in, using a lot of space. Still...

    Shower Upgrade/Mcb,s/rcb

That probably explains whty you cant buy them, although B&Q sell the rewirable 45Amp holders. Unless they are pre wired you can't get the fuse wire, but then again if they blew once by the sound of it your CU would be in pieces! OK so a new unit then - the link above looks like a good price...
