    New sewer inspection chamber

I have to relocate my sewer inspection chamber due to a new extension I am building, can anyone tell me if there are there any regulations to take account of? Also, the new extension will contain a wet room/wc but the floor level will only be three inches above the outside ground level meaning...

    Damp interior walls

I think it's a question of percentage moisture content in the masonary above the DPC (or where the DPC should be) rather than whether rising damp exists or not. Many Victorian houses for instance were built without DPC's and were expected to have damp walls to a degree but don't suffer from...

My new invention for underfloor heating...seriously.

Compared to a normal radiator as I mentioned in the original post

My new invention for underfloor heating...seriously.

    1. Room thermostat 2. Normal underfloor insulation available from any builders yard 3. Wood fixed between each joist with the pipe cleated to it, simple 4. Who said the heat needed to radiate evenly. it doesn't radiate evenly with supa dupa profession installations so why should I do it, eh...

My new invention for underfloor heating...seriously.

Thanks Paul Barker & corgiman, some postive critique which is what I want. 8mm pipe, I looked all over the Internet as I knew there was small bore pipe made but not being a plumber myself didn't know the right size or term, now I do, cheers.

My new invention for underfloor heating...seriously.

Because the room would get too hot there being a greater amount of radiating surface and with the hot water flow rate being the same.

    RSJ lintel calculations?

Thanks Nige F I'll give it a gander. Btw it may be cold up here but our oil lamps are second to none and well light the way to the WC outside.

My new invention for underfloor heating...seriously.

Same heat coming out of the pipes as with the 'gold plated' outrageously expensive plastic pipe Diyisfun, what's inefficient with that?

    Do Yorkshire Water..........

Yorkshire Water are doing a brilliant insurance deal, £2.99 per month and your drains are covered for blockage and collapse 24/7. That's godda be the deal of the week!

My new invention for underfloor heating...seriously.

In order to save a few bob and not line the pockets of zillionair underfloor heating plumbers I invented a new u/f radiator system and was wondering if any clever clogs could pick holes in it. My new system resembles a radiator laid flat (with one alteration) and stretched to fit the room...

    preparing walls etc

I would leave well alone except for cleaning off loose material and removing nails, screws etc, the builder/plasterer will know what to do, if anything.

    Damp interior walls

Do you actually have an existing dpc (damp proof course)? I had the same problem but as someone above has said rising damp is uncommon, very often it is caused by leaking gutters, high ground or rubbish accumulation outside or concrete used as plaster in a mistaken attempt to to stop damp...

    RSJ lintel calculations?

Anyone know how to calculate a correct size RSJ please? The house is a run down Victorian(1860) semidetached '2 up 2 down' cottage built from soft red-brick with lime mortar. The opening in the load bearing living-room/kitchen dividing wall will be 2.2 metres wide and the wood joists (7"x...
