    Bathroom Radiator As Bypass

Thanks Dave...so what should I do if I don't want to use a rad? Ideally, I'd prefer not to generate excess heat that then needs to be got rid off somehow. So in the summer, when CH is off, and Zone valve is shut because hot water is at temperature, how can I make sure there is no or little...

    Bathroom Radiator As Bypass

The good news is that I've finished the bathroom in my house and it has some nice new s/steel electric towel rails. :D The bad news is that maybe I shouldn't have been so hasty in ripping out the rather old hot water towel rail. :( I have a Potterton Kingfisher MF RSL 100 floor...

    New Bathroom Floor Problem

In our new bathroom, about 8 weeks ago I fitted Wickes 305mm x 305mm self-adhesive Vinyl tiles. We followed the Wickes instructions to the letter by laying the tiles on the shiny side of a new hardboard base laid on top of the floorboards. There are no visible gaps between the tiles and I've...

    Sound Proofing

I'm dividing up a large bathroom into two small ones and I'm separating them with a timber stud partition wall. I'm using 47mm x 75mm sawn timber with 12.5mm plasterboard --- I'm told that 12.5mm is much better than 9.5mm for reducing transmission of sounds. What should I put in the cavity...

    Bathroom Supplementary Bonding

I know...there are probably more topics on this subject than any other. :( And I even went out today and bought the excellent NICEIC "Snags and Solutions" book on "Part 1 : Earthing and Bonding" (below). A very good & useful book IMHO. :) But I'm still a little confused; and if I ask...

    Breeze Block Dimensions

Whoops! Didn't realize they did them. :( Better go buy some :) . Thanks!

    Breeze Block Dimensions

I understand that the term "breeze block" is a generic name for all sorts of clinker based block used in the '60s and 70's because it was cheap but is no longer in use within the building industry. I guess Thermalite is todays equivalent. Anyhow, I'm removing a doorway in an internal...

Check valves, Mixers and Mains Cold

Thanks! I just checked.... I think I'm OK based on my limited understanding of IRN 140 (http://www.wras.co.uk/Directory/IRNs.asp)...since I have an Over-Rim Type bidet and the plumping looks identical to the diagram shown for this type. But I wish I understood IRN 109 :(

Check valves, Mixers and Mains Cold

Some advice please :) Re-doing 2 bathrooms in a large 1950s house with gravity feed system etc. All the old sanitary ware has been thrown out and new purchased. My wife choose mixer taps for the 2 basins, bidet and bath --- although following an earlier mistake (:( ), we were careful to...

    Bathroom Electric Circuit

I've completely gutted my bathroom in my 1950's house....everything is gone, so I can start from scratch. :D The only electrics that are needed in the bathroom (apart from overhead lighting) are a couple of 350 watt heated towel rails, a shaving socket, 3 amp power shower (not an electric...

    Leaking New Loo

Thanks Dave. The rubber soil outlet seal (ScrewFix) at the back is perfect...and the leak is at the very front of the bowl. The rest of the loo is dry. I've now taken it out of the bathroom to do a more controlled test overnight and not connected to any water supply or cistern.

    Leaking New Loo

I can hardly believe it... Having slaved away for the past 8 weeks (not part of my day job!) building a new bathroom from a room that was previously a spare room: laying pipes for outside waste and splicing into soil stack, laying (safe!) electrics for power shower &...

    Acrylic or Silicone?

When do you use one sealant versus the other? Seems they are often inter-changeable. I've recently installed a soil outlet from a new toilet and the 110mm pipe needed to go through brick wall on the outside and a plaster wall on the inside. I decided to use silicone on both sides to seal...
