    kitchen floor

Oh okay. Presumably you need to suspend it, somehow? Otherwise it just ends up on the ground :D I seem to remember seeing something about netting, but I don't know if it was for use with using loft insulation or something else, now. If netting, how do you protect that from rodents? I'm guessing...

    kitchen floor

Do you mean just the ply, or the LVT as well? I was going to go with 15mm, to level it with the adjoining room. If there's a more cost effective solution I'd love to hear it! Any advice as to what to use and where to get it? I've tried getting underfloor insulation before and it was impossible...

    kitchen floor

I have a suspended wooden floor - floorboards - and I'm going to put down LVT. I know I need a flat surface for this so do I put plywood down on top of the floorboards, or replace the floorboards with plywood? Secondary question - if I board over the floorboards, do I do it all over, even where...

    Covering gap around flue

Oh, lovely. Yet another thing the cowboys fscked up! Yes, the flue is vertical. I live in a bungalow and it goes up through the ceiling, into the loft, and then through the roof. Thanks, I'll look into getting one fitted. Or is it a possible DIY job? It looks like it's two separate pieces that...

    Covering gap around flue

Thanks for that. I thought there must be something, but didn't know what they might be called. Have you actually (successfully!) used that method of installation, or is it just a guess that it might be possible? I worry that either the thing won't bend enough for me to get it around the flue...

    Covering gap around flue

Yes there is! After your suggesting I found https://www.diychatroom.com/threads/sealing-gap-around-furnace-flue-in-attic.191431/ which seems to suggest cutting a semi-circle in each piece of board. Is that what you meant?

    Covering gap around flue

I've been trying to work out how to reduce/cover the hole in the ceiling where the boiler flue goes. There's about a 2cm gap all the way around the pipe. Hopefully you can see what I mean in the photo. I wondered if there was some kind of collar that could be installed around the flue, flush...

    How to erect a fence?

Thanks. Is it possible to drill into and mount posts to the edge of the concrete forming the path? What would I need to use to fix the posts to it?

    How to erect a fence?

Thanks Tiger. That's basically what I was wondering, whether it's better to drill and somehow fix the posts (of whatever material) to the concrete, and if so how, or to concrete the posts into the ground. The latter is my least favourite option, just because it would involve a lot of digging...

    How to erect a fence?

Okay, first off it's not quite a fence, but... I live on quite a steep hill. The front garden slopes down quite a bit, and the path along the front of the house is raised above that (about 1 foot). There's no handrail or anything, so there's always the danger of falling, not just onto the...

    Do I need a room/house thermostat

That was about my reaction as well, but I didn't know if it was well-founded. Thanks, everyone.

WBP or cement board under floor tiles?

Thanks, Chris. You reckon 6mm will be rigid enough then?

WBP or cement board under floor tiles?

I have approx. 22mm thick floorboards over which I want to tile (I don't know the tile type or thickness yet as we haven't chosen them). Should I put the recommended 12mm WBP down, or (as I've read elsewhere) cement board? If the latter, what thickness should I use, 6mm or 12mm? Thanks.

    Do I need a room/house thermostat

I've had two contradictory opinions provided - one says that despite having TRVs in every room I should have a centrally located, wall based 'stat, the other says the latter isn't needed. My layman-logic says I do, since it will actually switch the boiler off, which TRVs won't (can't), but what...

    Under-floor insulation

Since I'm going to have the floor up anyway... What is my best/easiest/cheapest way of insulating my floor? For reference it's a suspended floor the top layer of which I'm having to replace (see other thread). Access from above only.
