Why am I absolutely sure you are not a RGI after reading your question?

I am. I am working away in London and this job came up unexpected. Its a pipe upgrade from 15mm. Did a gas safety check and the working pressure was 11mb. Told the customer they needed pipe upgrade and got the job. Going to do it before I head home. I dont have the materials to do the pipe sizing calculations.

Just need to know the pipe size to use, thats all.

Thanks.

No other appliances?
Effective length = 13.5m
Gas flow rate = 28x3.6/38.5=2.62m3/h
Assume 22mm pipe give max length 20m, gives pressure loss 13.5/20=0.675mb

hope this helps

How can you be a RGI if you can't work out a gaspipe with only 1 appliance that does not come anywhere near the limit of a standard size? You would be a disgrace to the trade, if it were true.

Look for the final time I have not got any of my books with me. I tried to look on google for the pipe sizing tables but could not find them.

I dont like guessing the pipe sizes, I would rather do a job efficiently and use the least amount of materials I could. I know running the whole thing in 22mm wont be cost effective either as 15mm could be run near the end but I dont think I'll get the answers I'm looking for, especially with people like you on the boards.

People like you scare others away from posting legitimate questions.

Stop crying OK.

I've got work to do, so byeee.

I am a RGI, its just that I'm probably not as experienced as you. I haven't memorised the pipe sizing table like you have.

You are not supposed to memorise the tables, you are supposed to know how to read them. You are also supposed to be able to have a way of verifying if you have any doubts that what you do is correct, when you are on the job.
What are you going to do when you are confronted with an unsafe situation, go home and log onto the forum?
If you can log onto the forum, why can't you pull out your book and look it up?
Bad show chum.

You are really stupid, no other words can explain your posts.

I do not have my books with me. I have stated this already, try and keep up. I do know how to read the tables.

I would be able to recognise most unsafe situations, if not I would make sure by reading the my unsafe situations book which I keep in the van at all times. Failing that I would call Gas Safe and make sure the situation was classed right.

I'm with Bengasman on this one. I am a new RGI and with all the training i have undertaken and paid out to get to my position, pipesizing will never be forgotten.

Regards

So you are working away from home, meaning you don't have access to your books during that time at all.
So how are you going to verify that the boiler is working safely without your books? Have you memorised the tables for gas rating?

You don't sound like a RGI at all, you sound like someone working for a company doing first fix on a building site who came across a cash job for a third world landlord and is now using your boss' registration to do some illegal work.

You don`t need books/tables if you have the necessary Degree  - Just admit it, you`re a plumber like me ;)

The strange thing is that I did some calculations - but I don't know whether they're valid, nor what they mean, 'cos I'm not an RGI ;)

And yet the op took these at face value. Bit worrying that he didn't ask my credentials

Any Engineer would have his books in the van at all times! your book are as important as your tool kit

I do not for one minuite believe you are registered, if you are you are a disgrace to us all fella
