Hi Guys, we wish to put the washing machine in an outside covered area. The only way to drain it would be into the WC. I see I can buy a 90 degree WC connector that comes with a 32mm boss. Can I reduce the washing machine waste from 40mm to 32mm at the WC connector? Would the flow be OK?

Thank you.

Thats a very large washing machine waste size.

Not quite as large as an Electrolux commercial wascator machine but not that much less!

I agree that it may not be much of a problem to reduce the size but you should have an "open" water seal trap between the WC outlet pipe and the WMC drain hose.

If he means that then he has not expressed it very clearly! But I agree it seems more likely!

If the WMC instructions ask for a 40 mm waste pipe then as its a pumped fast flow that may well be too much flow for a gravity connection to a 32 mm waste pipe. Furthermore a 32 mm trap will create a further restriction to the flow.

The traditional connection for a WMC has been an= 40 mm upstand pipe about 600 mm high with the WMC outlet pushed down the pipe about 300 mm.

I suppose you could try it and see but its likely to back up and over flow.
