Hi

I've knocked down the wall between kitchen and dining room, and am going to have a hob facing the dining area. I therefore need some kind of ceiling mounted cooking hood, just hanging there.

Couple of questions:

1) Are there any that have an adjustable height, so that you can have it lower while cooker, but higher (and out of the way) the rest of the time?

2) Failing that, what height do you recommend? I sometimes see them at eye level, which to me would seem awkward, as you can't easily lean over a pot to check it. But I guess as you go higher, you need a stronger (and louder) fan to actually be effective

3) Do any of these chimney's need an outlet, or do they have filters that just need changing every so often?

Thanks

Marcos

Not seen any variable height extractors, but maybe someone else has, normally the weight means they have to be secured to the wall. If you can do it by all means run ducting to the outside wall as this is the best way, but failing that use filters, they are pretty good these days.

There are island cooker hoods but are fixed height, the height is dictated by the manufaturer for efficiency and safety.

I was all excited about your Miele suggestion, and then I read the online manual; you get a whole 28 centimetres of movement. GREAT...

NOT

I mean, 28cm is hardly packing it away neatly is it.

EDIT - Just realised this could be miscontrued - I mean to winge at Miele, not the poster!
