Hi All
Started painting a staircase today all was fine till painted stairwell, when id roller paint on, the fresh paint was pulling off, as if it wasn't adhering to the wall. I was using Dulux Endurance mat, has anyone got any idea why this was happening?

No its been previously painted about 4 times, it was only pulling the paint off that i was putting on.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps you are not keeping your roller loaded enough, and as the roller runs dry, it is pulling the paint back off the wall. Keep that roller loaded! (if you are not already doing so)

Thre are a number of possible causes, some form of contamination on the wall, or perhaps trying to apply your paint over a gloss or silk finish without the correct prep.

mmm the only problem was it looked congealed on the wall so i scraped some of it off  i was thinking let it dry over the weekend hopefully i can flaten it down and repaint

This is a known problem. Endurance=retail or Diamond matt = trade. The paint sets very quickly skinning, sothat when you try to even out you over brush and pick up the skinned paint giving the curdled look.

The only way I find it works well is to thin down paint and give two full coats, make sure heat is off (cooler the better) and try to keep fresh air down while painting (close doors/ windows ) Try to do one wall ata time cut in and fill in one go. not cut all in then roll.

Thinning wont hurt with 2 coats.. Been back to several jobs and noted diamond matt on hallways still got a tough finish on several yrs later.

Good luck.

Thx for that sounds spot on! thought with retail paints you would have longer workin time  hope i can flaten the wall down on monday!

May be possible that you are applying coat over a gloss or silk finish but I have noticed that when roller is used extra paint gets removed. This could be one cause. Try to paint again without using roller.

Think ive sussed what has happened, the paint in the tray and my kettle kept forming a skin so needed stirring frequently. thx guys
