Hi,

I fitted a new en suite in May this year and everything was great, until this week. For some unknown reason, the seal/o-ring on my push top basin waste has deformed and now I cannot close the plug. I got this from Plumb World, but it seems to be a generic part available all over the web. Manufacturers part number 201753.

The seal has a U or V cross section, it is not just an O-ring. Having been to my local plumb merchant with the plug section, they told me that they could not supply the part. I have tried quite a few O-rings, but they either leak or prevent the plug from closing.

Hopefully someone can help me identify the part and a somewhere to buy it.

If the last resort is to buy another waste, I will get a better quality one with an O-ring that I can replace!

Thanks

Another bit of plumbing technology not thought through. I noticed that all the ratings from the suppliers punters are five star, brilliant, when new.

Problem solver: try to take out the non working parts of the click clack waste and clean the spring etc this just might work like new 5 star again (for how long?). Alas springs and clips do not work in the real world, unless you don't use soap and live in a soft water area or don't wash much.

Real solution: Take out click clack waste replace with plug and chain, job sorted. Send click - clack back to china for recycling.

I have often wondered why plugs went out of fashion - these pop up wastes are horrible to fit for the non-pro at least, and they dont seem to work very well.....why invent something so much more complex than is needed for such a simple job (ie plugging a hole)??

Thanks for those suggestions. I'm not sure there is anywhere to attach a chain on my sink!

I guess I've learnt that buying cheap means buying twice!

Probably try and get a refund, as it should not fail that quick.

Will have to choose more carefully next time

B & Q do used to stock spare o rings for pop up wastes give it a go you never know. Nowhere for plug & chain try anti vandal Screw fix 57005 or 64920. No silly springs!

Get refund defiantly (not fit for purpose) turn the screws on and ask for compensation to refit another waste of your choice. You may have to get someone in to replace faulty item???? Needs paying for! Of course you will be phoning Office of Fair trading for advice in conversation.

Best of luck.
