I am building a deck which will be surrounded by 3 walls, only one side is "open". I am starting with bare earth, and will lay weed membrane. The deck will not be attached to the walls and will rest solely on the ground.

The dimensions are 3.6m x 3.4m. The joists will go 3.4m, the boards 3.6m.

I plan to build a basic frame out of 4x2 timber - joists with a "header" attached at each end, then have an intermediate 4x2 underneath the middle of the joists. The three cross joists will then be supported by bricks or blocks bearing onto paving slabs on top of the weed membrane.

Does this sound ok?

How should I attach the end header joists to the end of the main joists - given the end joists will bear the weight and transfer it to the ground?

Hi,

Is there a particular reason why you don't want to concrete in 100 x 100 posts as your uprights?

I assume it it because you already have paving but I think it would be more secure?
