Can't get any cold water from taps apart from the kitchen.

Checked tank in the loft and the float moves up and down fine but no water enters the tank.

So is it worth replacing the valve, most people on the internet either seem to have floats that don't move or the water doesn't cut out.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

heeelllooo and welcome andyg79 :D :D :D

what has happened recently ??
the kitchen tap is often the only one fed from the mains
its often airlocks that cause this problem when air gets into the tank fed water pipes

So is the Cold water tank empty? If so, then it sounds like the ballcock valve is at fault, as long as you are getting mains water to the valve inlet? It may just be the pin has seized and needs a tap/pull. Brass ballcock valves are usually serviceable.
Otherwise replace with a good quality valve.

big all mentioned airlocks, when the cistern is filling again have the other colds taps open slightly to minimise the chance of getting any.

If no water comes out of the float valve when moved up and down, then someone has turned off a stopcok that is on the rising main up into the loft.

But the water should still flow to the other taps as the cold water tank is full of water.

The tank is almost empty. When the arm is down the water drips through.

Lots of limescale on the outside so I guess it could have clogged it up?

I guess I'm going to take it off is it better to replace it rather than clean it

Thanks for your help

Because I take it the op has checked all stop cocks and know that no work has been done on the plumbing system in the last few days. So new float vale it is.

Are you on 4 days off fireman t?

My apologies, Moderator 11, I was not trying to hi-jack the original thread, because it seemed as though the author was having the same problem as I was having. I was hoping that if he had viewed my post re Main Stop Cock, then it may have been of assistance to him.

WD40 worked, changing the valve was easy in the end.

Had an airlock after but removed the shower head and sucked through the hose and everything is good.

My wife went out for the day so I've let her think it was a much bigger job and I wasn't watching the cricket.

Thanks everyone for your help really appreciated.
