Are BG quotes getting more competitive ?

Guys its not a whole system just a powerflush + magnabooster + replace one radiator + add another new radiator.

I have had three quotes now for a complete system i.e New boiler (Vaillant or Worcester), power flush, magnaboost and change one radiator and add one more. This invloves MOVING the boiler as I have an old back boiler in the lounge so not just a boiler swap. BG = £4100 and two others £3750 and £3500 the higher of the non BG ones included ME lifting carpets and floor boards myself so they then run new pipework to the new boiler location, whereas the BG one was all in. As I said the two non BG quotes also would not cover me if the flush caused problems and all additional work would then be chargeable over and above that.

So this work is part of the job at £1050. Later I can then pay for a new boiler when the back boiler finally dies without needing another power flush or the new radiators magnaboost etc i.e. spreading the cost.

If the BG quote is competitive and you intend to stay with BG after the warranty period then go with them.

There is no manufacturers warranty if BG fit the boiler as BG essentially buy the warranty from the manufacturer. If you continue with your homecare agreement after the free period then theres no issue as all parts are covered anyway.

We all know horror stories about BG, here's a quickie
One of their contractors installed a Keston on an undersized gas pipe which kept locking out when the cooker was turned on. After about 8 that's eight visits by their engineers where they changed pcb's and whatnot various times it was decided to get a Keston specialist in, he did an inlet pressure test and found the problem straight away. They had to come back and upsize the pipe, which they did, but after great inconvenience to the customer because of their collective ineptitude.
We also know that there are good as well as bad at BG, but it makes me laugh to see those adverts about 'looking after your world' bearing in mind stories like the above.

blimey who let you out ! The voice of BG speaks again ! You have to be the worst advert for BG I've ever come across

If they did a better job than us Mike then they'd have somthing to shout about be you and I both know different

I have just had the final quote of four to install a new Combi in the roof space. The quote was well detailed and came out at £100 more than the BG one for the same boiler.

Despite all this I have actually gone with BG to power flushing my existing system, install a few new/replaced radiators and a magnaboost.

I will then continue to run with my working back boiler in the lounge fireplace until it fails or parts are no longer available. All this work will then set me up for a new boiler to be installed in my kitchen most likely by BG who will honor/guarantee the power flush required for a subsequent new boiler warranty.

This forum has been very helpful, if only to save me £150 on selecting and installing a new wireless thermostat myself.

No doubt I will be back when it comes time to select a new boiler as even now I am beginning to doubt whether a combi is the best option!

I have learnt a lot simply by getting all these quotes and speaking to the various engineers. I am really glad that I did not leave it until the winter where I may have been rushed into getting something fitted with little consideration, because I was desperate to get heating and hot water back!

Jerry Simon, the sooner you get your new boiler the more moolah you'll save.

British Gas are not the company they once were, you come across ripe for being fleeced. Their salesman already knows you'll be spending your hard earnt with them when the time comes...

Lol ok. Clearly all the other engineers that have quoted want to fleece me in equal measure then ;)

My system was installed in 1994 so I think I have got my money's worth :)

K'in hell

The OP's gone out, got various quotes from both BG and indy's, made an informed decision and still he gets slated
