Makita 18v lion 4.0ah compatibility

Hi all,

I've just purchased a new pair of 18v 4ah Makita batteries only to find they do not fit the majority of my tools.....so slightly peed off!!

I see its all to do with this yellow slider with an embossed star on the connector plate.....I have noticed an extra rail on the new battery which I think if I remove it would connect OK. Has anyone else done this?

Can't see it just being the rail, the rail is probably there to prevent you using them in those tools for some other reason, maybe the tools can't regulate the current properly or something. Your only option is to return them mate.

I have read someone claiming to have removed the rail with no problems.......it was my circular saw I really wanted them for as it eats batteries.....

Just wondered if anyone else had this issue.........

Pretty ****e from Makita until now I'd been happy with them

i definatley would not tamper with a safety device specifically designed to stop you doing what you want to do
just use the the tools they don't fit with your older batteries
and phone the help line/technical advice line and ask them why its like that ??

Apparently I read that there were additional safety monitors added to all cells as oppose to just one cell 'pre star' models, it appears to be the high draw older tool models which aren't compatible so I will just use them with my compatible tools......just frustrating with the cost of Makita tools.

I have seen the price of the new Makita circular saw which is compatible......OUCH £280

good man you wouldnt want to ruin a good battery with no comback if it fails next week

I have just seen an LXT kit 3x4ah batteries containing a circular saw so assume the new version is compatible........

Sorry to jump on this.

Can I assume then that the new tools are not backwards compatible with the 3.0 batteries either.

My BHP451 gearbox has had it, was gonna upgrade but may as well just get another BHP451 body from eBay whilst they are still available.

My impact driver 2013 is the new type 'makstar' and accepts both my 3.0ah 2008 batteries and the new 4.0ah 2013 type, so think you will be OK. Its just the other way round as I believe the tools can kill the new 4.0ah batteries if they don't have the new integral protection system.....
