Do I need wall plate for rafters? Or can I have it bolted into side of wall?

Bit of a tricky one to explain. Here goes...

I'm creating an open vaulted roof in a bungalow where one side of the roof will have the trusses coming down from the glulam ridge onto a wall in the usual fashion (with wall plate etc). But where the other side where the rafters will come down is an existing gable wall which will need to be retained. Thus I can't 'level' off this gable wall in order affix a wall plate to it for the rafters. Can I either place a wall plate on the side of the wall and place rafters into that? or can i punch holes through the inner leaf and then place the rafters in them?

Rafters will have collar ties and will be connected at the top with a structural glulam which is already supported either end.

SE has done the calcs etc but in terms of practicality the dwgs aren't clear and my enquiries are left unanswered.

Many thanks.

Free ended truss rafters are usually supported on truss shoes fixed to a wall/pole plate.

Thanks - just what I needed! But I knew it must be possible.

Forgot to mention that I will have a 2.4 wide opening below the wall plate for a window, so will utilise an extra heavy duty catnic (to bear the weight of the wall above and the extra load from the roof). From that pic I see there's a vertical timber - I'll extend that up the gable wall as much as I can to spread the load/get extra fix to the wall.

The image is likely showing a cut out section of a girder truss hence the upstand.
