I bought a 'heavy' punch bag, (approx. 30kg) with the intention of hanging it in a garage. The garage is single storey, brick, flat-roofed and attached to the house sharing the wall with the hall & stairs etc. and is sturdy, built at the same time as the house (50's). The roof of the garage is supported by 2" x 5" beams roughly 20" apart.
My initial approach was to fix a baton across 2 of the beams and hang the bag using a bracket attached to the baton with a bolt that allows the bag to swivel.
However, if I hit the bag with any real power the garage is shuddering or at least it feels like it is shuddering but difficult to tell how much and the wall attached to the garage moves and it can be felt inside the house shaking.
So the question is can I really do any damage to the house or garage, the garage wall has all the meters etc. I could make the bag lighter maybe or is this just a bad idea full stop.
