Is this dry verge done right?

Hi,
Hope you don't mind me joining and lobbing in a query straight away. We had a bad job of the dry verge done a few years ago. Someone else has "fixed" it but I'm more than a little doubtful about his work. He said that the edges of the tiles were chipped, and hence the dry verge caps aren't vertical - but if so, why did the previous lot sit vertical? He was on the roof for about an hour and a half at most (note - only doing one gable as the other is OK). As far as I can see:
- The caps go from near-vertical at the bottom to about 30 degrees off at the top
- They don't sit over the top of the adjacent tiles but rather are sitting next to them - this doesn't appear to be normal, but I'm no expert - anyone?

I haven't paid him yet. He seems like a nice guy, and I don't want to create hassle inappropriately, but this looks really shoddy - certainly not what you'd expect a £333/hr job to look like!

Thankyou in advance for any advice.

They do not appear fitted correctly, might not be the compatible units for the wessex roof tiles.
can you take a clearer picture zooming into the bottom of the unit to tile..

Hi, thankyou for the response. Here's a couple of photos taken with a longer lens:

The verges would fit if they were raised higher to slip over the tile, possible exposing the top of the barge.
It needs stripped and done properly.
Nice guy or not the jobs a mess ...hes not a roofer.

It's crap and it's wrong.

You tend to find that the crapest cowboys have the most wonderful "nice guy" personalities.

Yes, alas - and generally speaking, I'll trust a man until he does me over, then won't trust him again. That translates to "anyone can take advantage once"!

That said, we've had a chat and he's very willing to return and sort it out, putting the caps over the tiles as they should be - either tomorrow or Friday. I'm not yet happy with the job but am reserving judgement on the guy - guess it's important to recognise that bad workmanship doesn't necessarily imply bad man!

Why did he not install them properly in the first place.
He is a bad man! he tried to con you.
Post the pics when he refits them...

I don't think thats a con I think he is just clueless, and as stated not a roofer. I can't believe he has done that. Would be interesting to see the other gable close up OP to see if he just copied what was already done incorrectly.

Hi, happy to say that he came back and re-fitted. He did it with good grace as well - didn't get defensive, and apologised for not having got it right the first time. The end result is better - not the best I've ever seen, but passable.
The first photo is of the reworked end caps; as you can see, they're not fantastically even but they do at least go over the tiles. The following two pictures are of the other gable, which looks a lot better despite having cost a lot less!

They are truly horrid things, but that's a good as it's going to be.

As woody says.
Dry verges are for a dry verge... like a newbuild where the laths come out and can be cut nice and straight so the caps can be installed.

Retrofitting dry verges onto a wet verge is just crap IMo, you can’t beat a nice new mortared traditional verge.

Anyway OP, looks a lot better and glad he came back to sort.
