I need to unsweat a fitting without disturbing the fitting/elbow below it. I plan on wrapping the fitting in a wet rag/tissue but not sure if I still won't disturb it with it being so close. Anyone had this problem before?
As it's the top fitting, just wrapping the lower fitting in a well wetted rag should be OK. Grip the fitting to be removed with pliers, etc and use a bit of a turning force on it. As soon as the solder melts it will give and then twist off. If you are going to re-solder something onto the pipe where the fitting was removed from, re-apply the heat a couple more times to the pipe while also wiping off the melted solder with a dry rag. Wire wool or abrasive cloth should get any residue of solder off end of pipe.
