Morning guys.
Currently having a roof replaced along with gutters, facias etc. I've got some concerns with whats been done and wondered if I'm being tucked up with some questionable work.

My big concerns are shown in the pics in the link below- although there are others.

The overhang of the tiles into the gutter doesn't look correct - looks like he's come up short on the gutter and relying on the membrane to carry the water in. That front gutter carries a large chunk of the roof area and it looks to me that the water could just run down that fascia board. I'd also have thought that membrane will be in tatters within a year or so of being exposed to the elements?

The gutter into the hopper doesn't line up and water being water it will spill over the side when theres a reasonable shower.

There are other concerns but I'm just wondering if I should get someone else round to look at the work.

Comments appreciated.

thanks, w7r

The tiles should be overhanging the gutter by a minimum of 50mm.

The hopper shouldn't be used for this situation or it should be lowered and a downpipe fitted onto the gutter to go into the hopper.

Those tiles are waaay too short. As soon as that membrane has perished, the water will not even make the gutter and will run down the wall. Big problems for the future. I wouldn’t be happy with that.

as above.

to alter an adjust the eaves tiles battens an the first few lower courses battens would hit extra work at the mortared-in valley.
maybe eaves protection plastic felt support trays would work without all the extra bother?

from what i can make outthe verge detail is wrong.

Shocking work, they can not be qualified roofers.
From the little we can see the whole roof will probably need to be striped and redone .

As you know it's wrong and will bite you in the future.
Could be expensive to correct properly.
First, more pictures, measure the tile gauge used,
The first course tile gauge looks shut down do if the above gauges are also then that's a positive .
You might then get away with just stripping the lower few courses ..
But you might need more drastic action.
I would not rely solely on insertion of underlay support trays.. even these will require the first four courses to be stripped.

Morning all. Thanks for the replies - really, very much appreciated.

I'll post some more pics as requested shortly.

I'm a a loss as to what to do next TBH. The guy has done a roof and load of other work for one friend/neighbour and it looked a really tidy job hence my going with him, he's also done a loft and an extension for another friend and that looked decent too.

To say I'm pi$$ed off and disappointed is an understatement.

I'm going to the site at lunchtime today to speak with him - trouble is I need it sorting and my trust in him has completely gone.

Given I had this guy upon recommendation and having seen his work I'm not sure what more I could have done. I'm not a complete numpty when it comes to these things it's just that with a roof it's very hard to see exactly whats going on unless you're up there watching these guys work.

If I have to sack him off then I'm prepared to do so, but then my next problem is how do I go about finding someone trustworthy and reliable to either redo or do the remedial works?

cheers, w7r

More pics now uploaded. I'll get some more general ones of the roof later today.
