Cleaning Danish Oil from walls

I made the mistake of getting a small amount of Danish Oil on a wall when finishing a tabletop. The walls are freshly painted vinyl emulsion, and quite washable so I tried washing it off before it set. But this just seemed to spread it out further and further!

I've now tried painting over it and yet it's still showing exactly the same - again I think the roller just spread it around rather than going on top of it.

Is there any way to clean this stuff off a wall? Or will I have to sand the lot off and repaint?

Just an idea; have you tried solution of washing soda ... it gets rid of grease and also stripped the polish off my wood units by accident. Don't take my for word for it tho

I'd try alcohol and sugar soap before getting the sander on it.

You need something to penetrate and break down the oil base and something to clean. Got nothing to lose.

Danish oil is basically vegetable oil thinned with white spirit.

so white spirit will clean it off when fresh

However the oil oxidises to gum and then to varnish, after which you can scrape it off, but the white spirit no longer dissolves it.

Just spray with stain block and redecorate.
