Help needed with positioning and install of IP CCTV cams on garage prior to first fix..

Hi guys, I've got a garage thats work in progress and I wanted to mount a couple of HikVison IP CCTV cameras on the outside.

I've got one small bullet camera that I thought would work well if positioned here (see below) and the dome camera positioned here to cover the side and stairs.

Each corner of the eves has a timed gu10 led. and I plan to fit a PIR sensor to the front and side.

1. Would you agree with my positioning, is there a general rule that I should follow?

2. Are any of the lights likely to cause much issues with the cameras?

3. Is the PIR positioning okay or too low?

Is it possible to temporarily fix the cams using nylon ties etc and rig them up to a monitor to see how the coverage goes?

Hey mate and thanks for the suggestion. I've now sorted the positioning for the cameras so am happy with that... My next stage is somehow get the cat 6 through to them?!

Could someone please provide me with some tips of the best way to do this?

Below are a couple of photos. The DVR for the cameras is below in the garage in the same corner as the cams.

One showing the slab flooring and another showing the inside corner of the building where the camera wires will come through. Approx 3 bricks up 1 brick in.

The cavities are pumped with bead insulation..

I'm almost considering just bringing the cables up and through to the cameras as a temp fix but if I could do something serviceable it would make sense

Just rewind a bit- what are you hoping to achieve with these cameras?
With externals like that (and in what looks like a fairly isolated area) you'd do well to consider covering each camera with a camera.
Which cameras (resolution, lens, aperture) exactly are you using- the bullet cam may or may not register enough detail for evidential purposes on that long shot, the dome cam would (IMHO) be better above the door firing down the stairs. And there's no cover at all for that door under the stairs (no idea what that leads to).
Another slight weakness is the (presumed) meter panel set conveniently in the wall.
Cabling- straight through the wall with a 20mm SDS, shove some conduit through to stop the beads going everywhere, cable from directly behind the camera mount (so no cable visible)
DVR in the protected space- best not. Got any ducting running from garage to house- chuck a switch in the garage and a length of CAT6 up the duct and keep the DVR warm and safe.
There are more experienced CCTV types on here who hopefully will share their expertise but that's my take on it

One very important one is do not have any coverage outside the boundaries of your property.

Not sure coverage out side the property boundaries is a major issue on this development.

The Police have a different view from the ICO and as long as you have a valid reason for covering certain area along with the systems registration it isn't such a big issue as its made out to be,

Where you cover other neighbours areas, you are best to discuss and formalise something between you or use the cameras privacy masking to block out certain areas.

Cameras need to be specified to do the job required.

Given the length of the drive its not really a question of a bullet or dome but at what point do you want to identify the vehicle or person coming up it, along with a very good IR range, the IR distance claims od say 20M then I would suggest its more like 12M to get good illumination, looking t you drive I would be looking at IR of 40M plus, unless your illuminating the drive way.

Maybe you should look at a PTZ or at the very least for the drive way coverage a motorised lens so you can optimise your coverage once the camera is roughly in the right direction.

Registration isn't a problem at all now for domestic installations. I've just received an email from the ICO to say they don't want my money any more and my registration will be deleted.

Security isn't an issue and the cameras are some that I've had lying around from a previous house and just want to make use of them. Just so that I can see generally whats going on if not at home.

The two cameras are:

4mm bullet - hikvision ds-2cd2042wd
2.8mm dome - hikvision ds-2cd2142fwd-1

The upstairs will be a self contained flat for friends and family. I agree that the dome would be better sited further up the stairs, but sorry I failed to mention that I will be having a pir over the door and a floor pir further up central towards the eves plus the coverage works well for where our backdoor and car are parked.

We do have ducting running from house to the garage. I need to get internet into the garage and decided on the following route to make use out of an wifi access point that I have.

My plan is to run a cat6 from the switch in the house to the access point in the garage and attach the DVR to the access point. Would that make sense or is there a better way to do this? I'm happy enough having the DVR in the garage.
