How to deal with failed macerator

It's a ****ty job yes, but anyone that is competent can dismantle, clean and repair one.
It's only a ****muncher!
How do you tell what is wrong with it though? I can see that fitting one or even replacing is doable if you've got a bit of plumbing experience, but to figure out which part is bust means you need to understand how the unit works?

Correct, and sometimes you just have to be there to see, feel and listen to what is going on (or not happening).
