I ended up using a filling knife to scrape some of it off today but wasn’t able to shift it entirely. Assuming it is lichen, what do you advise? I was hoping for a spray on solution which I can then rinse off
Lichen will not allow rain water to enter a roof, indeed, as I recall, some Lichen is an indication of a clean environment, clean air with very little pollution?
Moss on the other hand can and does allow rain water to enter the roof via the roots of the moss having penetrated across the interlocks on the tiles.
The roof tiles serve as a utilitarian addition, first and foremost. A roof bears the brunt of the weather and bird muck and all that the 21 century can throw at it. Few people look at a roof and say 'gosh, they are nice tiles'! Lichen and moss will return. People who like shiny roofs are the same people that fret about shiny driveways. You will always have a battle on your hands. You are better off accepting a bit of muck.
