Hi folks, question for those of you with knowledge.

Following a few rare dry days I have been thinking about applying an oil to my decking (new and untreated)

I have been doing a little research and have been drawn towards the following .....

Barratine Decking oil

or

ronseal decking oil.

any opinions on them? Good? Bad? Etc

many thanks

Following the overwhelming response I opted for the Barrattine Decking oil in Light Oak.

It looks lovely 70045E41-37C9-4593-80A2-642F0CCDD941.jpeg 443D66C7-4B98-467B-9D07-7040B3C145A6.jpeg

Looks fantastic. Was all the wood new? Assuming so, I am looking at a product to recoat existing decking but not sure what has been used previously. Jet washed it this weekend but not sure whether to go over it again.

What are the glazed panels you have used? Are they child friendly?

Yes, all the wood was new. It was fitted by a firm called Just Decking, based in Staffordshire.
The glass panels are toughened glass so yes, they are child/crazy dog safe.
We opted for glass over traditional wooden spindles to allow a better view of the garden from our lounge.
i have to say, the oil went in a dream.

Out of interest, how's the decking looking now after a bit of winter weather? I was under the impression a new deck has to mature a bit before treating to let the oil soak in.

Hiya, still looking great. Really pleased with the Barrattine Oil. Highly recommended.
In fact, so pleased with it I’ve done two sheds, one summerhouse, another 30sqm of decking at the bottom of the garden and over 20 meters of sleepers!!!

oh and my garage doors

I really should have shares in Barrettine. Lol

ps, I let the main decking ‘age’ for approx two months if my memory serves me correctly

Brilliant, thanks for the recommendation - I'm glad it's still looking great, with so many products on the market it can be a difficult decision whether to go stain or oil, especially with a new deck that's been pressure treated.

The new decking literally sucked the oil off the brush!!!
It’s really thin (runny) when applying so goes on like a dream
