Caravan act ? Garden structure

Hi all
Thinking of constructing a garden room under the caravan act rules. Has anyone done this.
no planning permission required
No permitted development
Just a certificate of lawfulness to stop any problems.

If youre DIYing rather than buying a commercial product youll have to be sure you make it so that it could be moved once erected. Maybe try asking on a dedicated self-build site. Or consider buying a self assembly kit?
 
Yes I believe it can't be attached to the floor and able to show it could be moved. Raised off the floor . so it could be lifted by hooks or straps or towed.

How would you "show" that it could be moved? Your bog-standard garden shed just sits on a slab of some sort - it isnt fixed, but probably wouldnt fare too well if you lifted it.

Cant help thinking youd need some kind of "approved" design, or calculations done by an SE to show that your building had the necessary structural integrity.

Do you want to build-it-yourself for pleasure, or for cost reasons?

Why the caravan act? Why not just a garden building?
How big?
A guy at work years ago bought /was given the chassis of a residential caravan that was past it's sell by date and was going to scrap. He cut it up to make a small trailer. Would that be an alternative to build off?

I think the mobile home ( caravan/park home) rules require wheels for mobility. Having seen a few homes sited - the wheels are quite puny , and their chassis is more about the homes chassis than moving far. I've never seen the homes lifted because they all had access to be pulled out. "mini acrow" jacks under the chassis then a brick or wood/plastic skirt goes round.
 
Well - OK - Im not an expert. Obviously wheels would be an option, but Im pretty sure that any means of moving a building will do, and craning onto a lorry would be just as good an option.
 
I once thought about this ... and because people get funny about caravans in back gardens, I thought instead maybe a boat. Not sure how I'd get it there, but a narrow boat would be easier to get down the side of the house ...

What about if you built an outhouse on a raft? Would that count?

Who play down the need for pp, citing the Caravan Act. They swiftly move on to assure you that they can expedite your pp, and can use the caravan act if they need to, but don't worry, that almost never happens.

My amateur translation would be, "You need planning for our buildings."
