Yay we got there in the end, you can still buy them so your contract provider should be changing it , they are very expensive though, you would be better going for a controls up date , and no I dont know how much it would cost

OK. So remove the relay and replace with something else? If so, what should I change it too? Would the Hive thing do the job?
No they will have to remove the valve and the relay, then replace with a 3 port mid position valve, then you can fit a hive dual channel if you want,

And to do this I need a gas safe engineer who is qualified to do the electrics as well?

They don't need to be Gas Safe as they won't be doing anything inside the boiler, but they will need to be familiar with heating controls wiring

Who installed the three port valve? the relay you have is normally installed with a drayton ta/m4 three port valve (motor on / motor off valve) as you dont have this any more it can be wired as a conventional y plan, as said you need someone with experience of heating controls.

If it i the actual relay which has failed, sourcing and replacing just the relay is one option. The relay is the part in the box, in a clear plastic case. Some relays simply plugged into a (octal) socket, so very easy to replace - if one can be sourced.

The guy who came to repair the system it seems was not a heating and ventilating engineer, anyone trained to over level 3, i.e. an engineer would have known that was a motorised valve, not a relay

YES they have let you down. Tell them to send a proper heating engineer

Your guy seemed to not have much of a clue at all about heating systems, he was probably just a trained monkey to do one job - that of servicing a boiler and issuing a bit of paper.

Typical guilty until proven innocent on here.

This is the part which was fitted Feb last year. I have found the receipt. Originally there was a motorised three way valve but it had to be replaced as it had seized. The exact same part could not be purchased at that time so the plumber fitted the Corgi 3 Port mid Position Valve. At the time he wasn't sure if the wiring on the relay would run the new part. So it seems this is the problem. The relay won't run the corgi-s-port-mid-position-valve or, perhaps it can but is just wired up incorrectly?

PS, the original plumber from Feb last year isn't around anymore.

Really - your best way forward, is to find and get someone in, who is thoroughly conversant with heating system controls.

I agree the relay probably is the issue, but not because it is faulty, rather it has been wrongly wired when the valve was changed - guessing how to wire it, never turns out well.

Holly, you could state location, maybe someone on here is available for you?
