Bad crazy paving style cladding on lower front of house. Done in 70s/80s. To remove or plaster over and render? Anyone any real world experience or advice please?
Do you suffer with damp patches under your windows?
The reason for asking is, when I lived in Liverpool a couple of side streets were getting stone cladding fitted to the fronts of their 2 up/2 down houses. The company doing it promised a discount to each 'client' if they could enlist someone else to get it done at the same time. The 'contractors' literally blitzed through 3 or 4 streets covering as many as 15-20 houses in each street. As this was in the spring/summer they tended to get decent weather and got them completed. Come the following spring and the story going round was most of the houses now had patches of damp on the internal walls. This was discovered to be the cladding had gone down to floor level and bridged the damp courses. Naturally the company that did the work were no longer contactable.
Looking at the bottom of your 'crazy paving' reminded me of the incident because yours looks very close to ground level.
