There is a flip side to that

Generally gets bandied around by Russian old duffers
Putin either ignored his military or he was badly advised
He thought the Ukranian / west would react in the same way as when he walked into the Crimea
50000 causalities ( and counting) later was his total miscalculation
Russian territory has already been attacked some while back Crimea
He has a major problem his tough guy persona has taken a hit
He would be best advised to wear his bullet proof vest at all times
Imo it’s just a question of time ? Before thefe is a direct confrontation with nato
They can't join whilst in a war, it's in the rules. It's a PR move, nothing more.
I don't think that a country which is currently at war is eligible to join N.A.T.O. So it won't be happening any time soon.
A Ukrainian bloke the other day said, "we've beaten their professional soldiers, now we'll beat their amateur ones".
Putin says it is NOT a war, hence no reason why the Ukraine cannot join NATO
maybe some of the amateurs will be asking here for advice on DIY body armour and DIY treatment for battlefield wounds.
