Storm Henk: Lost a Ridge tile - Townhouse Height

Hi

We live in a townhouse and lost just one Ridge tile as shown in the picture.

What's the best way to fix it? As it's a town house I reckon this is not something one could claim up on the ladder to fix it.

Does it need a whole scaffolding setup to replace this one Ridge tile? Is there any other option to fix the Ridge tile?

How much does it cost? I'm planning to claim from the insurer if this is not something I can afford.

Any inputs will really be helpful before I take wrong decisions. :)

You need a roofer with a bloody long ladder. Won’t be cheap though. A roofer once told me that missing tiles at the top of a roof is nowhere near as bad as one near the bottom so it might pay you to wait until things calm down.

A roofer can get to the eaves and use a cat ladder or it is common practice to push tiles up and form a route to the ridge although most roofers will insist on a scaffold and rightly so in today's H & S climate. Either way it is going to cost you so best get 2 or 3 quotes in and see what they say.

Thanks. I've inspected in the loft few times and cant see any leak yet. Fingers crossed.

We did that once! I ran a company installing aluminium seamless gutters in the early 80's. It goes up really fast. We were doing a school in Coventry for a main contractor, and it was all scaffolded except for one little 10 foot length round the back fairly out of sight. We ran the extension ladders off the van roofrack (not quite as high as that), and fitted that last bit so we could go home.

I was young, fearless, and fairly stupid!
