How often do you injure yourself?

During ammunitioning ship, including missiles/torpedoes and boxed ammunition, I was responsible for the supervision of all personnel involved and briefed them all on the hazards of explosives and how to safely lift/carry heavy boxes.

I walked the ammunition routes to identify any hazards during the all day evolution, and I came across a box of 7.62 ammo which was blocking a passageway. I stooped down to move it and when lifting the box, I felt a crack in my back and I ended up flat on my back in agony.

You can imagine the embarrassment of me the Safety Officer being wiped out for not following my own manual lifting safety instructions. I was flat on my back for 3 days before I could return to any semblance of activity

My boss was not impressed as he had to take over the role.

Never had a bad DIY injury as such just the normal cuts, bangs and scatches as opposed to football/ rugby fractures but even though I was aware(ish) of cement burns totally ignored the factor when I was helping son to lay,spread/ tamp/trowel concrete slab until a several hours later legs began to tingle.End result was eventually hospital visit and a bit of TLC
