Yes that is possible but he was fairly right up my backside in the first place as I was making sure that I was going 40 at the point of passing the first gantry as I know that the cameras are mounted on the other side.

Quite possibly. But sympathy for them is only technical. Anybody who gets disqualified via totting up of speeding offences is clearly never going to get the message, and all this will mean is that disqualification happened a bit sooner than it would have done anyway.

4 lanes including one on my left for people leaving the motorway to connect to another, he did eventually overtake me just before the 60 gantry.

Was the left lane only for leaving the M-way? Plenty of drivers won't use the nearside lane when there's no traffic in it for as far as they can see.
