non-maintained emergency light

I have one of these and supplied it with a permanent live and neutral. I have removed the small wire between L and SL. Nothing lights up - not even the led indicator. I have waited 3 days, thinking it may be down to charging, still no led indicator. When cut the power, the light doesn't illuminate.

Thinking it may be a faulty fitting, I tried a second one and the exact same issue.

Can someone please advise.

Batteries for emergency lights usually have a short lead and a plug on the end which needs to be connected to the matching socket on the circuit board.
Yes indeed, they sometimes have a little DIL type switch on the circuit board so you can flick the battery on or off.
The instruction manual does not seem to give much info.
 
Thanks for the responses guys. Helpful as always. As @flameport has suggested, it needs to be connected into the circuit board.
