Does anyone know of any decorating/Painting ways to cover horrible artexed walls...

Is it artex paper or artexed walls?
If paper you'll have to strip it all off and see what horrors lie beneath. If it is proper artex I guess you can get your scrapper out and knock off all the pointed bits and have the whole area skimmed. All in all messy but who wants artex on a wall? It's bad enough on a ceiling..............
