    Filling holes for re-drilling

Hello, recently bought a tv mount. Measured out the holes levelled everything up but coming to my second hole. As I got past the plaster and to the brick my drill started to ‘wander’ causing my mount to be misaligned. I’ve relocated this mount twice now to try get this right. I have used a...

    Replacing Facias & supporting tiles?

It would be far far easier to simply remove the bottom few courses, the house will stay watertight as the felt will see to that, if not tack a strip of felt onto the rafters. I assume that you are refitting in timber in which case paint it up first and then you'll have only a few holes to fill...

    Should tiles be flat?

Where is the leak coming in? Have you got holes in the felt? Have a good look at all the tiles, especially where the interlocking bits are as they break very easily.

    Soffit Lights

Be aware that in some houses the soffit is behind a course of bricks and this might force rods over the felt, mine was mix of stuffing cable up the hole and fishing or rods

Has someone just bodged the hole up with a felt triangle and timber laths in the past? For sure, the gutter end that we can see there is up to no good! John :)

    Roof problems

Tiles often let water in and if there is any holes/damage to the felt its going to show inside as yours is doing. If it were a slate roof it probably would not be leaking.

    New Roof Required ???

Holes in felt is a minor problem, they can be patched if they worry you. If your roof is generally in ok condition and weatherproof then why replace? If it aint broke don't fix it!

    Filling Ridge tile holes

I have just replaced felt on a roof and extended a dormer, BC have suggested using a dry ridge system to allow ventilation with the existing eaves vents. I purchased a dry ridge system and planning to fit this weekend. What i am concerned about is all my existing ridge tiles have x2 holes in...

    Roof leaking, Velux window problems?

When Veluxs are fitted it's necessary to cut a hole in the roofing felt. As bad as the Velux fitting instructions are (!) they do show that a 'nappy' should then be made which seals the hole in the felt with the edge of the window. This maintains the secondary protection of the felt. I...

How Much To Repair This Roof?

About a 10cm squared hole in felt. It seems a tile has moved and a bird got in. Insulation will also need replacing in that area. A small area of felt has also come down in another area, no leaks though. Insurance company quoted £450 if claim is processed. Sloping roof and end terrace. Thanks

Has anyone removed cement fibre slates from inside the loft?

Yes it is doable. The pain comes if you have felt/membrane under the slates- getting the weathering right on that from the inside can be tricky so be very careful where you cut. If no felt then it's still a fiddle but gets a lot easier once you can get your shoulders through the hole :)

    Re-felting old garden shed advice!

it wont leak as shed felt is designed to work with clout nails which will seal teh hole, especially once it has warmed up. We normally use marley garage grade felt which is about £5 more a roll but lasts a lot longer and is easier to work with as it doesnt tear so easily.

I can see light through my roof

it is not unusual when peeking through the felt lap to see a chink of light. it is unusual however to be "looking up" when observing such light. felt is lapped in such a way as to allow water to run off and not in, therefore you should only be able to see through the laps by looking down...

    Leaking roof - Advice needed

Should I fix just the roof, or both roof and felt though. Roofer #1 inspected the attic and advised fixing the torn felt. Roofer #2 advised that the houses in my estate all have degrading felt which will have multiple holes so fixing the felt is a waste of money, he didn't go into the attic to...

Does this need to be rebuilt?

The felt seal has a gap, some holes in the brick face, parapet and a shot showing that neighbours also had repointing done. They don't seem to have bowing walls

    Taking a homeowner to court

I think your neighbours extension requires more ventilation. If you were really kind you could help by drilling some holes through the felt roof.

    Temporary chimney plugs (ventilation)

Cheers! To be honest I've not really felt a breeze coming down or going up the chimney - but it must have an impact on the room, as it's a ruddy great hole to the open sky.

Wet rotten batons under Roof tiles

There are grills at each end for ventilation. Another question I have please. Through the larger holes in the felt I can daylight. Does this indicate a problem with the roof tiles.?

    Roofing in rain

As there are no counterbattens fitted, make sure they use nails that aren't so long they penetrate all the way through the batten and the felt, otherwise there will have been no point fitting the felt only to bang it full of holes. Also, take care with what is done on the underside of the felt...
