    Composite door - remove paint

Sand it down (to flatten and key the existing paint, not to remove it), then paint it black. Ask on the decorating forum about any special paint or primers for composite.

Alternative suggestions to composite cladding, where walls won't be seen

Hi all. I'm planning a garden room/office which will be situated towards the corner of the outdoor space. It's a SIPs build with HouseWrap and battens as you'd expect. The front and right side elevations will be visible and clad with composite interlocked cladding, but the left and back won't be...

    Door sill - repair possible?

Hi all, I’m wanting to know if this is a sill and if it can be repaired? I have tried wood filler and painted it, but the paint always seems to peel. Using Rustins external black gloss. If not, I think this is a composite type, can I replace with timber or would it need to be composite...

Thoughts on composite decking these days?

Hi all Searched a bit on here and found some mixed thoughts on value vs benefit, so wondered what the general consensus is these days. Moved in here in June, decking was already an absolute mess. Clearly did it themselves, as the cuts and joins are god-awful, with some dire "patch-up" jobs...

Hardwood or composite (GPR) front door?

We have an ugly old uPVC front door that we want to replace. The outside measurement of the frame is 1m wide, so it's probably too wide to get an off-the-shelf door. Looks like we'll probably have to have it specially made. Ideally we'd like to paint the door so we can choose the exact colour...

    Very cold, metal front door...

Cheapest method then will probably be a wood door fitted by a carpenter into the existing frame with the usual sanding and painting maintenance required or you could go PVC/Composite. I would recommend composite as they are more solid and look much nicer IMO.

    Renovating an external door

I have followed your link and the first result reveals something with a wood texture, saying it's a composite door Mine isn't the same, is it?

    Faulty composite door

We had a new composite door fitted by someone that lives in the next street as he gave us the cheapest quote and advise that he would fit the exact door I pointed out from a borcure. We ordered a white door. He came to fit it and advised that he'd ordered black in error and asked if we wanted...

Opinions sought on painting new decking and paint/cost

I am considering options to finish a newly felted roof terrace approx 7 sqm. I like the idea of (grey) composite decking but it is very very expensive especially when adding in its hidden fixings etc Wondering what those here think about the idea of painting new decking? Wickes are doing 4 for...

Wood or composite door for arched porch

I would go for Composite. Depends on how much you want to spend and if you want to have to paint it every few years.

    Renovating an external door

Thank you for your prompt response! I have just googled "composite" and I most composite doors that I saw in my brief search had UPVC cover. Mine, however, appears to reveal metal of some sort in places where the paint is coming off. I took a magnet and it sticks to both inside and outside of...

Is my new GRP composite door painted??????

Are GRP doors sprayed or is the GRP layed coloured, as I was lead to believe? I ordered a white grp composite door for my porch, expecting a hardwearing white coloured GRP surface on it. As I opened the door to fit it once in place, I noticed small chips where the door had struck the lock...

Fitting a (Very) expensive composite kitchen worktop

I'm about to fit a new composite "Maia" worktop in a utility area I've just created in my cellar. I'm going for the "industrial" look with lots of exposed (but painted) brick etc. Unfortunately, the wall it's going against meanders by about +_1.5cm along the length. The question is, do I...

    Acrylic resin paint mixing

I would like to use Farrow & Ball exterior eggshell paint but the colour is just slightly different to what I need. It just needs a little bit of black to darken the colour slightly. With F&B being expensive I don't want to spend the extra on F&B exterior eggshell black. The 100ml tester pots...

Painting my uPVC windows and fascias

We've just had composite doors fitted in RAL 7016 and I was considering painting our uPVC Windows to match. I'll be watching this with interest as the results so far look really good. Are you brush painting or using a compressor?

Best paint to protect composite front door from light

Sorry I was wrong about the door - it's composite, rather than UPVC. I will probably use a brush. Would the Zinsser paint still be a good choice?
