Loft condensation and insulation - help please!

Hi - it's looking at some of the threads you mentioned that's made me think twice. Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by conventional insulation?

Loft condensation and insulation - help please!

I would use conventional insulation on the loft floor and see if that sorts the condensation problem, if the two are indeed connected. It is easier than removing sprayed insulation. Look on the threads on this site to see what the general view is of sprayed foam insulation. Blup

Loft condensation and insulation - help please!

Hi I'd be really grateful for help/advice - I'm panicking a bit! As a bit of background.... I am looking to replace the current loft insulation (fibreglass/rockwool), laid on the loft floor. This has been prompted by a potential problem of condensation on internal walls/ceilings; in our second...

    Spray Foam Roof - Urgh!

Unfortunately I’m the owner of a spray foam roof. The survey when I bought the house didn’t flag it as an issue but soon after buying I realised it was a ticking time bomb. I should have done my research I know, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. The loft is boarded out and has damp patches...

How much window reveal can be insulated?

It's ordered. To clarify, in the pic is 25mm insulation and 9.5mm plasterboard, so 34.5mm total. So those thermaline scholar boards will be no good. I think I had this dilemma in another room and ended up just spraying the dryfix foam on thick ... will leave the top as it is (did like this in...

    Spray Foam Roof Insulation

Sometimes, spray foam is touted as a means of securing loose or slipped tiles, not just for insulation. So yes, a survey after removal will advise you about the tiles and structure.

    Spray Foam Roof Insulation

Good Morning I'm buying a house which has unfortunately had spray foam insulation put into the loft. It's become apparent that this could be an issue for lending and so the vendors have agreed to have this removed. Is it likely this will cause damage to the roof/tiles itself? Am I mad to...

    Condensation despite low humidity?

I've had a bad smell in my upstairs front bedroom for perhaps a year. It comes on overnight. After rain it's a damp, almost mildewy smell. When it's dry it's more musty. It seems mainly to come from around floor level in the back corner of the room. One wall in that corner is a party wall and...

Damp on a solid exterior wall in Victorian house

I used foam - I think it gives a lot more coverage than gripfill - you spray it on, wait 4 minutes for it to cure a bit, then press onto the wall. If squashes and covers a larger area than a line of gripfill. Also better to foam if the walls are not perfectly flat. My first insulation + boards...

    Closed cell expanding foam

...Or you could look at technitherm were you can spray it directly onto the boat to seal even the most awkward place. Also you could check out BASF they have a spray foam insulation product. Both these products go on as a liquid and set like solid foam and completely waterproof. Hope this helps.

Help please **repairing roof from inside loft

I know it's been a while since your this thread was started but I noticed it was never solved and I found it via google. If you haven't already resolved the issue, the the only options you can do from the inside are: 1. use roof glue to fix the tiles together- this will help prevent them being...

building a floating floor, the floor actually floats too much, how to push it down

Hi all, just to wrap this up. In the end I took a number of different approaches: 1. I have hammered some areas where there was a hump to compress it ever so slightly; I afterwards taped the damaged areas with insulation tape 2. similar to what Woody has said, I have cut on the underside of...

    Insulating a steel shed

Hi folks, I recently put an 8x5 meter steel shed. The exterior is sprayed corrugated aluminium sheeting, with a 40mm box iron frame. I am going to line the interior of it with 6-9mm marine plywood. So I can hang things on, and lean things against the wall. However I was thinking of also...

    Hot Tub area? Ideas needed.

Drainage is good, it runs off onto a lower level. I’ll leave the insulation, I think it would be good between the concrete and the tub but then it would be touching the sand so might get eroded or something. Apparently the tub has the spray foam stuff on its underside so I might look at...

Recommended closed-cell foam? And opinion on lower quality insulation work?

The builders installed my L shaped loft conversion, but not to architect diagram spec, and plasterboard was put up very quickly. So I now have the following issues. What you see in the photos is what was plasterboarded. 1) Did not tape or seal any joins. Including the light recess cut out...

Filling subfloor with insulation beads ?

19 x 38 tile battens set down the thickness of the insulation. Cut celetex narrower than joist gap by say 8mm - 10mm Get gun grade foam and a metal gun, set the gun so foam comes out slowly. Spray down foam gaps, when set trim off. If you want foil tape over joists with 75mm foil tape to...

    Loft insulation

It gets me very upset when I see this being marketed in lobby of the DIY sheds. No advantage whatsoever. And no price is cheap enough. DO NOT DO IT. In addition to above comments, I have seen houses that have used spray insulation as being difficult to sell. You cannot check the rafters for...

Aluminium window - small gap between window and frame

Thanks @KenGMac. I tried one of those 5mm adhesive strips but it wasn't quite wide enough to fill the gap. I'm wondering if there is some kind of foam insulation I could spray into the gap until the windows are replaced. I'm going to contact local window companies at the start of the week to see...
