    Thermocouple

Do you mean that oven and hob are sufficiently different to be not interchangeable? Given that it is just the hob, can I assume that any TC listed with Ikea or Whirlpool hob TC is OK?

    Thermocouple

What ho one and all, I have an Ikea hob HGS4K which I believe to be from Whirlpool. Need a replacement thermocouple but am gobsmacked at the prices for Whirlpool parts. (https://www.espares.co.uk/product/es146424/hob-thermocouple---520mm) Oven thermocouples appear tobe a better price. Why...

Think they are as they can be found on the computer. 5 Live and Classic FM.

    Amazon Dot

Many thanks. It is a good price and considerably less expensive that a DAB radio so will give it a go.

    Amazon Dot

What ho one and all, Have the opportunity to buy a Gen2 Amazon Dot. I know it is behind the curve but I don't really need (or want) the very latest c**p.) The only reason to buy it is to hopefully get a better radio reception via the internet than we currently have with a regular FM or DAB...

    VOIP

What ho one and all, The road I live in has recently had optical fibre installed and can now be connected to every house, should they want it. I kinda want it but .......? My wife is Japanese and frequently makes calls 'home.' At the moment, we use one of the various CPS (carrier...

    Flash

Gentlemen and LGBTQ?+ (so a not to offend anyone!) Thanks the thoughts. Seems as if it is a bigger job than will really benefit me. Just have to move the light away a few feet or as suggested above, ND or even another diffusion sheet (throw a white sheet over the flash!)

    Flash

Thanks very much. May not be as easy as I thought since there are actually three cables to the flash tube. One to either end of the tube and another that wraps around the tube. All part of activating the gas to create a blast of light.

    Flash

What do I need to understand about the resistor size?

    Flash

Yes, the plugs are still available; as mentioned above, it's a BULGIN PX0551 8 pin connector. Don't know what the flash voltage is but would assume that it is high. As the plug would not have to actually power anything,I guess if I found a suitable resistor, it bout be fitted within the plug...

    Flash

Familiar with the trigger voltage issue but that was not my question. However, some internet searching for Nikon D300 and I found this which was in reply to a similar question, from Nikon. "As long as the flash's sync voltage is less than 250 volts it will not damage the camera and should work...

    Flash

Toodle pip;"The use as hello/goodbye was first recorded in 1906 in the Marvel, a boys' comic and would become especially popular among the characters of the comic novelist P.G. Wodehouse." Thanks for the replies. The attached is a photo of the flash pack, a Courtenay Photon 800. Probably...

    Flash

What ho one and all, I have a 240v photo-flash unit that can power up to 4 heads, but I only have three. The unit has a switch that allows full or 1/4 power. with one head plugged in, I either have 100% or 25% of the output, so can control within reason the power of the light source. With...

    Cleaning pipes

That is a great idea and I wish I had thought of that at the time of building.

    Cleaning pipes

It is not as such, a problem. But if when new, the pipes aare clean, and over the years, gunge grows / builds up, why will it not continue to grow with the rich food supply that it is constantly being supplied.

    Cleaning pipes

What ho one and all, When I clean out the U bends, apart from the accumulated hair, etc, there is a nice layer of black gunge / algae growth. I can see this is also in the parts of the pipework that I can see. So it is save to assume that all the under the floor pipework leading to the...

    Installing external 13a socket

Had not though of that/ Guess that may be the way to go. Thanks for the suggestion. I understand not penetrating the breather but is would only be a small hole and I cannot see that it would create any air tightness issues when compared with the overall surface area. After all, we are going...

    Installing external 13a socket

The first reply on the Screwfix forum responded to a question I did not ask. My question is not really electrical, it is how does one drill through the breather paper within the cavity without ripping it to pieces and winding itself around the drill? If that happens, there is almost no chance...

    Installing external 13a socket

What ho one and all, When we built, I installed a couple of external 13a sockets; thought that was good enough, but ............... Would be nice to have a few more! I can spur off an internal socket but the structure of the house gives me a concern. It is timber frame, Fermacell inside...

    Loft tank insulation

What ho one and all, This seems a pretty fundament question, so apologies for it benign so simple! Had to replace a ball valve on a rental loft tank yesterday and in removing the insulation blanket, it pretty much fell to bits. One of the problems I can see is that the fibre blanket is...
