    Potential airlock?

I am refurbishing an attic bedroom. I have removed the old radiator and run new piping to the opposite side of the room where the new radiator is to go. The new piping is already conencted to the system. I am moving the radiator to make better use of the space. As the room is going to be...

    replacing basin and bath taps

I'm no professional but they make fitting way easier. The position of existing piping may not be compatible with tap spacing on other sinks. Not aware of any pitfalls apart from they don't look as nice.

Adding a programmer to existing system

My combi boiler (Chaffoteux & Maury Britany Combi SE) has fairly basic controls. Not sure I need it, but is adding a programmer like this http://www.screwfix.com/prods/11225/Plumbing/Central-Heating-Controls/Horstmann-Centaurplus-C27-Programmer a DIY job or is it a pro job? Many thanks

Wood for lining a loft storage area

I've laid some flooring boards in the eaves either side of my attic room. I want to enclose it to keep dust levels down. The lining will go from the floor-boards up to the rafters mounted on battens and then screwed to the underside of the rafters. I was thinking of hardboad because its...

    Help with upgrading shower

A bit OT but glad I chanced upon this thread. I'm currently doing up my attic room which includes insulating it. All the current wiring sits on top of old insulation. I have put new insulation on top of alot of this. Currently the room is not being used but before I go any further what...

Pipe inserts sticking in speedfit elbows

After disassembling a couple of elbow joints to perfect the pipe lengths / layout, the pipe inserts have stayed in the elbow. I've pulled the collet but they're not coming out. Any ideas?

Cats using my new gravel area as a toilet!

I've tried Jeyes Fluid, cat repellent and neither work. If you find something let me know. What some people say works others don't. Large slate chips (approx 5cm) may be better.

    drip under bath - HELP

Maybe the drip only occurs when you're in the bath creating enough force to seperate the sealant between bath and wall?

Anyone know how Soundboard can be used?

We have very thin walls in the house and hear quite alot of what goes on next door. We're planning to re-plaster the bedroom and was thinking of using this. Most of the information sugggests putting in a wall that is in no contact with the other wall. We can't afford to lose this much space...

Can I trim 6" off a timber door?

Thanks, the room will be a bedroom so traffic going in / out and bunmping into one another will be minimal. So I can take 3" off top and bottom and the door won't fall apart? Cool

Can I trim 6" off a timber door?

Thought of the folding door, again this would still be difficult to fit in to meet BRs. Would a folding door be better for safety regs as they're easier to open, or because you can't 'walk-through' whilst opening it?

How tough is PEX barrier pipe?

Hi, to clraify the damage was along the length of the pipe where I threaded it under the floorboards - probably caught on some of the plaster from the wattle & daub. Replaced it with the left-overs and fed through more carefully having lifted a couple of extra floorboards. On closer inpection...

Can I trim 6" off a timber door?

Its an existing room so don't know if BRs apply Stairs go all the way to the landing so to be compliant would mean moving other doorframes around..... Not always as easy as it first seems

UPVC door not staying closed on latch

To keep the door shut I need to lift the lever upwards. Same style front door stays shut when you push it to. Is it easy to fix the latch so it shuts without having to lift the handle?

Can I trim 6" off a timber door?

Are you saying that a step down immediately after the door could be ropey? It would be mounted so the outside would be flush with the end of a tread, however the treads I have in mind aren't full treads, they're like spiral staircase treads. Thanks

Can I trim 6" off a timber door?

I want to put a door in for my attic room. As far as I can see (before ripping out plaster in the hallway) there is a solid wooden post about 2-3 steps up the twisting stairs. This would be the easiest place to mount it. This is 6" shorter than a standard door. I've read that you shouldn't...

How tough is PEX barrier pipe?

Already wrapped the ends i tape to stop gunk going in the pipe. I've got spare so I'll do it again, lift more floorboards and put lagging round it.

How tough is PEX barrier pipe?

Thanks. SOme of the scratches are quite bad, but I figure the black middle core is the tough stuff, the white outer is there to protect against such scratches. The ones I'm concerned about look like its been taken to with a stanley knife.
