Automatic water pump for sink waste?

Ahh yes, that's the exact kind of thing. With the need for only one low-flow connection, my challenge to you now is finding one that is even smaller and quieter! There doesn't seem to be the mass-market I expected for these things, so it's hard to find an online shop page with a big selection.

Automatic water pump for sink waste?

Hello, I wish to put a sink in my kitchen island, but will really struggle with enough fall on the waste pipe to the drain outside. My question is, is there a cost-effective simple automatic water pump solution for a situation like this? I don't intend to push anything big and nasty down the...

Smaller alternative to engineering bricks for DPC?

We have 2 courses of engineering bricks making up the above-ground DPC for a new extension. A set of bifolds will be installed and I could do to drop these down the external brickwork a bit. Removing a whole course of DPC would be too big a drop, and it seems that shaving approx 30mm off the...

Hang a pendant light below a velux window?

Hi all, Does anyone know of a neat way to hang a pendant light below a velux window in a pitched roof? We have a velux directly over the center of a dining table, and would quite like a light to hang down at this point. I was thinking perhaps a discreet white steel bar spanning the opening...

Cavity drain membrane, curve in corners?

P.s it's the mesh stuff that you dot and dab on to. We don't intend to batten and board.

Cavity drain membrane, curve in corners?

When installing cavity drain membrane (the bubble wrap type stuff), should you be able to angle it in to corners nice and tight? E.g in an alcove area. I'm having it fit and inspected the results earlier. In the corners the membrane rounds off a lot. I can't see how this will get plastered with...

Live with small imperfections, or spend on a fix?

Hypothetically speaking, if you'd completed an installation of something but it wasn't ideal, would you scratch it and spend the necessary cash to put it 100% right. I suppose it depends on certain variables, mainly how much of a percentage the extra spend is in relation to the initial spend on...

How tight in the corner is TOO tight for a door?

Thanks John, the pictures are massively helpful. Appreciated! The beading down the lining and the block joint is a pretty neat solution. If anyone else has similar images then feel free to post them.

How tight in the corner is TOO tight for a door?

Thanks for that. The architrave trim with flat on the head arch should be ok if that's how it has to be. I think we probably really need to stick with the standard 686mm door (could maybe trim 10-15mm of each side) so I'm hoping some clever jiggery-pokery with the bottom stairs winder can be...

How tight in the corner is TOO tight for a door?

I've just been looking at 626mm wide doors, of which there is quite a bit of choice. Any thoughts on a door that width for a master bedroom in terms of look/function? There will be one other door on the same stretch of hall with is 720mm wide.

How tight in the corner is TOO tight for a door?

This is based on a 680mm door by the way. It could have maybe 30mm shaved off the width to gain a little more.

How tight in the corner is TOO tight for a door?

Hi all, Due to re-configuring a staircase, we'll need to move a door over approx 220mm. The result is that it will have about 50-60mm space from the perpendicular wall that it encroaches on (max). This is enough for the frame/hinges, and a pretty thin strip of architrave down that side. Any...

Dormer loft conversion. Ridge height. Rock & hard place.

Nah that wouldn't work. Firstly it would be a sizeable job I imagine, but also the height/ridge is visibly different. It's quite clear cut once you notice.

Dormer loft conversion. Ridge height. Rock & hard place.

that's the ideal outcome I suppose. Not sure how easily I'll sleep wondering if we'll get a knock from a planning officer though.

Dormer loft conversion. Ridge height. Rock & hard place.

Hi all, I've been losing sleep and feeling very ill trying to think of how best to tackle my predicament. In a nutshell: I Put my dormer loft conversion out to tender and attracted several quotes. Received quotes/advice/info etc. Everyone agreed it is within permitted development and ticks...

blend to and extend existing GRP roof?

    Useful instructions, thanks very much!

blend to and extend existing GRP roof?

That would be a problem as the join would be horizontal with water running over it, so yea there might be potential for a little pooling unless completely smoothed off. Hmm.

blend to and extend existing GRP roof?

Hi all, Before I embark on something I'd like to quickly ask if it is ok to take an existing GRP roof and extend it over a larger area? This would essentially involved cutting along the edge of the existing roof, then GRP'ing from that cut and over another few square meters, creating a bigger...

Mixed recommendations regarding basement damp proofing

A pump for added peace of mind would of course be great, but it's one to really think about. The basement clearly has moisture penetrating the floor and walls, but it's over 100 years old. There hasn't actually been any water pooling anywhere, even after all this time. I guess it's hard to...
