What made these zig-zag marks on pressure treated timber

Thanks @JobAndKnock. If it is C16/C24 as advertised, should it definitely have stamps on it? All of the previous 4.8 metre timbers I have bought from the supplier have had stamps (a couple of examples below), but there is definitely nothing like it on the 6 metre ones I have bought recently.

What made these zig-zag marks on pressure treated timber

OK. So it looks like it is finger joined timber. This is the stuff that I bought. https://www.bradfords.co.uk/treated-sawn-timber-47mm-x-150mm-ttl136 Is it OK to use it for rafters on a pergola? I've been having a quick read online and it seems that opinions are mixed on the use for rafters...

What made these zig-zag marks on pressure treated timber

Hi, I am currently working with some 6 metre long 2x6 timbers. I have bought a number from the same supplier, but I have noticed that latest batch all have a zig-zag marking on them, and I would like to understand what it is. It almost looks as if the timbers have been joined at that point. I...

    Polycarbonate overhang and guttering

Thanks for the recent comments. There has been a delay with the delivery of the sheets I need to get started. Hopefully coming tomorrow or Tuesday. The advice about laying the sheets is appreciated, and I do plan to lay a number down before fixing anything, and then fixing and checking as I...

    Polycarbonate overhang and guttering

Thanks. Do you reckon I should put them on all of the purlins to reduce noise also? I'm not really sure how noisy it might be, or how much difference they will really make The sheet is only very roughly placed in the photo as I have been moving them about a bit today. I'm aiming for an...

    Polycarbonate overhang and guttering

The purlins are now up and I have bought a couple of sheets to have a look at. They are not fixed down yet, but they fit well and a recent shower drained into the gutter well. I am just waiting for a further order to arrive before I start fixing. I was going to skip putting foam fillers on...

    Polycarbonate overhang and guttering

Thanks for all the further advice. I am still in the process of putting the purlins up and have a couple of 2500mm x 950mm sheets ordered, which will allow me to mock up a full length (4.7 metres in places) and also overlapping horizontally. I have also mocked up a section of gutter with some...

    Polycarbonate overhang and guttering

Thanks for all of the advice so far. I have decided to go with 1x1 for the purlins. Even though I need about 90 metres of them (if I go for 400mm centres), I have found some locally which will only cost another 50 quid overall. I have also bought a section of gutter (went with 112mm half...

    Polycarbonate overhang and guttering

Thanks. I plan to run 25x50mm horizontal purlins at 400mm centres, which is what the polycarbonate manufacturer recommends. Install guide here - https://www.clearamber.com/brochures/1584547844CORRAPOLINSTALLATIONGUIDE_WEB_V1.03.pdf Will probably be using these...

    Polycarbonate overhang and guttering

Thank you. The fall is 350mm over 4500mm, which I believe is 4.5 degrees or 1:13. Could you please advise on what the minimum fall for the gutter should be? I have read elsewhere that 12.5mm over 3 metres should be sufficient, which I think is 1:240. The structure is actually 8.5 metres long...

    Polycarbonate overhang and guttering

Hi, I have built the timber frame of an attached pergola, out of 2x6 timbers, with 100x100 posts, per the design below. The angle of the rafters is 5 degrees, and I have added two noggins between each pair of rafters. I want to add a polycarbonate roof and a gutter to run along the cross beam...

Sister cross beam to extend pergola

Hi, I partially built a pergola last year and put in place an extra post (1) for future expansion, alongside the existing posts (2,3) I now want to add a new cross beam (5) between the posts to continue the work. I think that the normal approach would be cut the existing beam (4) above post 2...

Corroded bolts on post shoes with incised timber posts

Hi, Last summer, I installed three 100x100 incised timber posts in post shoes, bolted to a patio, as part of an attached pergola. I am in the process of installing a further post to extend the pergola, but upon inspection of the original posts I noticed that the bolts which tighten the show...

Best place to drill through aluminium door to fit maglock

Thanks. I ended up going for these BZP carbon steel ones, which seemed to work well (drilled a 3mm pilot first). https://www.screwfix.com/p/easydrive-carbon-steel-self-drilling-screws-4-8-x-16mm-100-pack/68505 The screws have 8mm of actual thread, and the bracket is 4mm. The screws cut well...

Best place to drill through aluminium door to fit maglock

Many thanks. Could you please also advise on the type of fixings you would suggest. The bracket comes with 10ga wood screws, which I will use for the bracket on the wooden frame, but what would be best for connecting the bracket to the aluminium door? These are the shortest 10ga self-tapping...

Best place to drill through aluminium door to fit maglock

Hi, I need to drill through an inward opening aluminium door to fit a Z+L bracket for an electromagnet lock. I am only fitting the lock to the left side door shown in the pictures. I would like to put it in the top right corner (A), but I am not sure what structures might be inside the frame...

Is this cable OK for maglock and keypad?

Hi, I am looking to install a electromagnetic lock, controlled by a keypad, and two exit buttons, and a buzzer. I have the setup working with a bench supply at moment and the lock, along with the keypad is drawing 0.55amps @ 12v. I need 6 wires for the keypad (12vin, 12vout, gnd, opensw and 2...

Drying time for mortar before priming surface for tiling

Many thanks tell80. I'm going to get the tiles back in today. Can I just ask why the primer is not needed? Is it because of the type of substrate or because the tiles are not hanging vertically? Thanks again.

Drying time for mortar before priming surface for tiling

Hi, I am currently repairing an area of tiles which had come loose, in a shower. They are in the bottom of a recess, which is actually a window frame (still has a window on the outside, with boarding in between. When I removed the tiles, the old adhesive was very crumbly, and when removed...
