Central heating pump running at night...?

It's a very conventional condensing boiler set up with a pressurised water circuit for radiators and hot water tank. What else would you like to know?

Central heating pump running at night...?

Well you may be right but surely this 'feature' wouldn't involve the pump coming on twice in half an hour during the night (I could understand once a day perhaps...)?

Central heating pump running at night...?

We have a Halstead gas boiler which has worked well for 5 years or so. Just recently I have started noticing that, occasionally during the night, the pump runs for short periods of 3-5 minutes. I've checked and the timeswitch is working as it should be, and certainly not coming on during the...

    Filling gap in kitchen top?

Thanks for both suggestions. Their websites suggest they are designed to work with laminate worktops. Would they also be ok with composite material ones?

    Filling gap in kitchen top?

Our kitchen has a working surface made of a material designed to look like polished black granite with some flecks in it. It has a couple of joins in it from which some of the filler material has now disappeared (the surface is rock solid so it is not due to movement). I am very keen to fill...

Kitchen lighting - T5 fluorescent light

Many thanks for all the help and advice. No steam, loose connections or dodgy switches so I shall send off for a replacement unit (and may have to change the connector). As a side issue, it will be interesting to see if the enclosed tube is the same colour temperature as our other existing...

Kitchen lighting - T5 fluorescent light

Under our kitchen wall units are a number of small fluorescent light fittings which provide light to the work top areas. One of them, which takes a 14W T5 tube, is flickering and proving troublesome. Some weeks ago I replaced the tube but now the new one is flickering too. My next thought...

    Shower pump won't stop

I've now spoken to Salamander and they agree it is either a flow switch or circuit board problem. However, if the latter, they need me to work out which side is faulty or whether both are (twin pump). The tech support chap I spoke to rattled off how to do this but could not supply any written...

    Shower pump won't stop

What would you suggest to unstick it? (Presumably it would be more likely to be a stuck switch if the shower had been in use at the time and then wouldn't switch off afterwards. In this case, the pump just started running out of the blue [the shower was not being used at the time])

    Shower pump won't stop

We've had a shower powered by a Salamander CT50 twin pump for 3 years and it's worked perfectly. Out of the blue the other evening, the pump motor started all by itself and would not stop without being switched off. There's nothing loose on the pump and no sign of any water leaks. I've also...

    Programmable Wireless Thermostat?

We currently have a (basic) digital thermostat in the hall which controls the central heating system. I've never been very happy with this as - despite having thermostatic radiator valves - the temperature is never ideal in the room one's in at the time. However, now that my wife and I spend...

How to control algae in a fountain & pond

Just been to a water garden centre to buy an appropriate chemical and ended up talking to the owner. Since I have no plants, fish etc in the pool, he advised me to use the same method he uses to keep his display ponds, fountains etc crystal clear. From time to time, as necessary, he adds a...

How to control algae in a fountain & pond

Jasonb, many thanks for clarifying and explaining the issues. I'll go for a chemical designed for ornamental water features (ie contains no wildlife). Don't suppose you, or anyone else, can recommend any good ones?

How to control algae in a fountain & pond

Thanks. Sounds as if a UV filter would be the best way to go (pond is probably about 125 litres). However, do they have to be fitted above the pond or are there submergeable versions as that would be the only way to keep it out of sight in our case?

How to control algae in a fountain & pond

We've recently installed a small fountain and pebble pond in the garden and the water is already beginning to turn green with algae. Can anyone please suggest the best and most economical way of keeping this at bay. There are no fish or plants etc in the pond but obviously we do not want to...

    Auto switch off device

Thanks for the further suggestions. I wonder why all the timers have a maximum time of 2 hours; I'm really looking for up to 4 hours if possible. Flow switch - good idea but I want to be able to switch the pump on from inside the house if possible. V

    Auto switch off device

Thanks for all the suggestions. To keep the size down, I might investigate building something myself based on a small timer chip and mains relay. V PS The only other thought I had was whether anyone makes what I want as an electronic night light for children that, like a candle, goes out...

    Auto switch off device

Thanks. Do they make them to work with delays up to 4 hours or so? I've only seen ones that delay by a few minutes. V

    Auto switch off device

Many thanks. Both very good ideas but neither will quite solve the problem. If only they made push button timers (or something similar) with a longer delay time...? V

    Auto switch off device

I wonder if anyone can help me with this? We have an electrical pump which runs an ornamental feature in the garden. For several reasons, it can easily be accidentally left on and it is only a matter of time before it runs dry and the pump burns out. I would therefore like to power it via a...
