Best oil protection for an Ash breakfast bar

I've since researched that standard oils also make ash/lighter woods turn yellow though. Has to have a bleach or white pigment in it to retain the lighter colour, is this right...?

Best oil protection for an Ash breakfast bar

Hi What's the best oil protection for ash. It's a brekky bar, but I don't really want a varnish finish, quite like the look and feel of oiled. Was thinking of using teak and just posted a Q on that but then thought that maybe it's not the best oil?? Thanks

I'm wanting to use teak oil to protect an ask breakfast bar. Is there good and bad brands as there seems to be a lot of price differences? Any advice on application/amount of coats etc? Thanks

What finish to put on timber breakfast bar

Would it be same as a decent floor varnish? I used water based Ronseal Diamond coat on boards and is a great brush mark free finish. Have loads left and if it's like for like then I'd rather use that??

What finish to put on timber breakfast bar

I'm getting a 1500mm dia circular brekky bar made and the supplier has offered a furniture finish sprayed lacquer on it for £50. I thought that this sort of worktop should be finished/protected with oil, several passes and continually maintained? Wood is Ash. Any advice on this please...

wallpapering over a settling crack but paper has rippled

I have papered a feature wall which had a settling crack from being replastered from bare brick. The crack is at the corner of an archway, going diagonally upwards. I let the crack settle for a year, have filled it and kept an eye on it to notice when it's settled as much as I think it's going...

    Cutting wallpaper around a fireplace

Any tips on hanging paper on a breast and cutting it around a fairly complex Victorian fireplace? I know the corners of the of the breast is where you make the joins, but how do you cut around the mantle and then into the sides of the fireplace where it goes in quite a bit?

Advice on timber panelled wall in kitchen

Hi I want to do a feature wall in a kitchen, in a nice hardwood, ie. something much nicer than a standard pine wall. I don't want it looking like a clad fence panel! :) Like the thought of walnut, Zebrano (altho I know this is extortionate!), Cherry, Maple etc. It's an area about 5sq/m...

    Correct position for dado rail

What's the correct height and how does it work on the stairs – ie. do you stop the horizontal line at a vertical point at where the first step starts or should the height of the rail going up/down the stairs be the same as on level floors (albeit perpendicular to the angle of the stairs, if that...

Type of 5 lever lock for double timber doors with rebate?

Hi Can you advise on the best solution to have a 5 lever lock for double timber doors with a rebate (ie. one door closes first with top and bottom up & down bolts, then the other door closes to it, but the edges both overlap like 2 L's by cross section)? I presume a surface mounted rim...

Paint stains/reaction on water based exterior top coat

Wow, thanks guys, that's probably the best news I could expect anyway. I did do the lick test but it's such a fine stain I could barely get enough on a finger! No salt taste anyway, so hopefully this surfactant issue is the cause and as you say, will weather off, and boy do we get the weather in...

Paint stains/reaction on water based exterior top coat

I have painted bare mahogany double doors and am getting a reaction. Here's the details: 1 coat of oil based aluminium primer (advised to prevent oils seeping through to top coat), 2 coats white Dulux Weathershield, self undercoating, followed by 3 coats purple Dulux Weathershield. When I...
