The space I have is around 2.2 metres by 800mm! Small but it can be done but I need advice on what you think of macerator units. Seem to get...

Joing together 2 thick pieces timber

Hi. I have 2, 4 metre lengths of 9"x3" which I got from the roof of an old house im working on. Nice condition timber which I want to turn into a 18"x3" low level shelf. What would be the best way of joining these 2 pieces together side by side? Bearing in mind its unplanned and quite rough...

Where to buy these split face tiles ....

Topps sell them. But how about taking the picture along to your local independent. They need sales and they will source them for you.

    tiling on chipboard

Do not tile directly onto chipboard. The tiles will come up. I appreciate you don't what the extra height but that is going to be unavoidable. I use BackerBoard 250 on all my tiling jobs. Use plenty of screws and stagger boards. Also make sure the Backerboards overlap the joints of the chipboard...

Thanks for the advice, will look into that. Leakydave's idea is good re bathroom door but I wont get away with that im afraid! My wife has 2x45 min showers every day. Does the dishes with no plug in sink. Clean hot water going straight down the drain. Lights on everywhere and tv flickering away...

    Ha ha, beat this!

Been tiling for donkeys years. Pretty good at it! Until. Tiling a big room a little while ago. Finished one part of the room and to continue I had to put a level line across a doorway. Simple enough, done it before. Put the bottom of my level on top of the tiles on one side of door, got level...

    Timed shower

Gas and water usage in my home has got out of control and I think will lead to a divorce court and my kids being sold! Seriously though, I need to kerb their shower times as its ridiculous. Is there some sort of timed shower control/head, whatever, that I can have installed. I was thinking like...

    Dripping condensation pipe onto glass

Hi, 6 years ago we had a new boiler fitted in our loft. We have noticed over time that the bedroom window under where the boiler is situated, has frosted over. What ever is on it will not come off. We have noticed the condensing pipe (sorry for terminology) comes through a hole in the soffit...

    Touching tiles

Pegs to small. I would use at least 4mm. Also, hard to keep level with irregular shapes tiles so when I use these I get every other course level using a spirit level. Also I use stiff adhesive and every now and again step back from the wall, look at it and adjust tiles to suit the eye.

    Noob tiling questions

What type of mosaic are you going to use? if its glass use a powdered adhesive, ready mix is no good. Use BAL Mosaic Fix from Topps Tiles, excellent adhesive. Mosaics aren't the easiest to put up. To make your life easier, go to Topps Tiles and get some mosaic 'Beava' sheets. These are...

Grouting quarry tiles, to top surface or lip?

Hi, used these tiles plenty of times. You would find it impossible to grout to the 'lower' lip. Also, you will probably find that once the tiles have been grouted, the joint is going to look far bigger than you might have thought. For grout I usually use a silver sand/cement mix. Easy to work...

    London cyclists dropping like flies

Poor man. I live and work in London and I criss cross this capital almost daily and I truly believe the roads are getting more and more dangerous, with drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians taking pointless, dangerous and unnecessary risks. I see things daily that make my eyes bleed.

Is this the worst tiling job ever (with pictures this time)

Hi Guys, nice to know its not just me! I genuinely felt sorry for this lady. This is the worst I have ever seen but increasingly im getting called to jobs that have been done badly and being asked for my advice in putting things right. Why did I not get the call in the first place. I'm well...

Is this the worst tiling job ever (with pictures this time)

Had a call from a very pleasant lady last night about changing a 'few' cuts around an architrave on a recently fixed floor. She was crying on the phone and when I went to visit her this morning, very very distressed. A very nice house and the people obviously have money. When I looed at the job...
