Previous owner failed to comply with building regs

Hello all! So, my new flat had timber windows (I assume sash but not 100% sure) replaced with pvc casement windows when the previous owners refurbished in 2007. I've just established that the flat is in a conservation area, set up in 2000. My experience of conservation areas around this part of...

Unscrewing hexagonal nut under washing machine!

Gotcha, thanks for the info Richard!

    Raising roof of extension

Hello all! I recently moved into a flat (Victorian conversion) in NW London (Zone 2). I'm on the upper ground floor. There's a flat on a floor below, and 2 flats/floors above. Ceilings throughout are nice and high (~3.2m). The kitchen is a smallish, I think quite old, extension (just under 15...

Unscrewing hexagonal nut under washing machine!

And there you go. I could pretend that I'd already done that with no joy, but that would make these forums far less entertaining. I will happily admit to being a complete fool. What can I say - I see a nut, I want to undo it. Muppet. Thanks John!!

Unscrewing hexagonal nut under washing machine!

Hi John, thanks for that. It seems pretty solidly fixed - there's no give at all when I try to lift/tip the machine. So there doesn't seem to be any way to increase the space between the bottom of the machine and the top of the rubber washer to allow a spanner to fit....

Unscrewing hexagonal nut under washing machine!

Greetings all. This seems a ridiculous problem to have, but never mind. Recently moved into a flat - the previous owner left an old washing machine in the kitchen, which I want to replace with my existing newer one. Theirs is under a kitchen cabinet, but it's been fastened to the floor using a...

    Help with turning radiator on!

Just to say thanks again to all - managed to get the valve open (as you said Jackthom, it was turned completely off and so had turned the flow off entirely). Thanks!

    Help with turning radiator on!

Awesome, thanks Jackthom. Will give it a go when I get back home this evening. Appreciate everyone's super quick help!

    Help with turning radiator on!

Thanks John! I did actually try that, but it seemed incredibly stiff and I was scared of damaging it. I'll have another go. Presumably I do it on both the valves on either side?

    Help with turning radiator on!

Hello all! Possibly the most ridiculous-sounding thread title, but never mind. Moved into a flat, bunch of (seemingly very unusual) radiators, but all working well. There is one, more modern, radiator in the kitchen, and this one doesn't turn on when the others do. It doesn't seem to have a...

    ADT 3200 / Scantronic 9800 reset code?

9827 is indeed the keypad model on the inside of the keypad. As it turns out, was totally overcomplicating matters myself - just reconnected the battery/fuse to the panel, and it needed pressing the code twice (rather than once), and all up-and-running again. Thanks again to everyone!

    ADT 3200 / Scantronic 9800 reset code?

Thanks Europlex. In my stupidity, I also managed to fail to spot the fact that I have an ADT 3200 plus......which per your list above, suggests a Scantronic 9800. Given DIYing this alarm is beyond my skills and I don't have the installer/engineer code - is this something I can get a local alarm...

    ADT 3200 / Scantronic 9800 reset code?

Hello again all. Right, back in my flat (not as I write, but in general). I've looked through the manual as sparkymarka suggested. Truth be told, I'm probably not confident enough to carry that out myself, much as I'd like to. But just to clarify - the "sr" error is system reset, or system...

    ADT 3200 / Scantronic 9800 reset code?

Thanks, sparkymarka, appreciate it. Will try it at the weekend to avoid the risk of waking up the entire street.....

    ADT 3200 / Scantronic 9800 reset code?

Hello all, recently moved into a new flat with an ADT 3200 alarm (which I understand is a rebranded Scantronic 9800). The cover over the panel came off when I bumped into it (unhelpfully loose screws), and set off the alarm I couldn't find the access code at the time, so pulled out the wires to...

Moving bathroom to opposite side of stack

Bump! Anyone with any ideas? Should probably have mentioned that there is another flat below that one.

Moving bathroom to opposite side of stack

Hello all! I'm considering an offer on a flat (victorian conversion). However, given some of the works I'd like to do, it would require moving one of the bathrooms to the opposite side of the property (and so to the opposite side of the stack). I've attached the floorplan - I'd want to move...
