Under decking - do you need to remove turf?

Ah yes - good point... but - with all this dry weather the grass is all but dead and has pretty much come off scraping with a hoe  I was going to sink the slabs for the front posts anyway so that they can be covered with the gravel - so I guess that's another reason to do it! LOL...

Under decking - do you need to remove turf?

I am planning to put down a weed supression membrane, support deck posts with 2' square slabs and cover the area with a layer of 20mm limestone gravel... Drainage is good in this area as about 2 feet below topsoil is all sand  :( - not so good for the plants...

Under decking - do you need to remove turf?

Just about to make a start on my decking project and realised that there is a huge amount of turf to remove  - and get rid of somewhere... Does it need to be completely dug out - or will the membrane and gravel kill it anyway - does seem like a waste of effort and cost if not really...

Suitable Spirit Level for floor tiling

Maybe my experience would help here... I thought - 'a spirit level is a spirit level' and bough a cheapo... It worked fine - but there are issues with durability which would be worth looking out for... 1) Mine is an I-section design - having accidentally trodden on it and twisted one of...

Sealant seems to have marked marble tiles :(

I have just had my bathroom done with 1/2 tile all round in marble. The bath is boxed in and completely tiled in too. Most noticeable is the surface that the bath sits on. Where the fitter has used sealant around the edge of the bath there are mars on the marble all the way round :cry...

Do I need to seal polished marble tiles on a bathroom wall?

I bought some chocolate marble tiles from B&Q for my new bathroom. The box said to seal them on the surface and edges before installation and again on the surface after grouting. The tilers who fited them said that you don't need to seal them before fitting them just afterwards, but that...

    Tiled Skirting

Building project manager came last night and I quizzed him on it! - He didn't really seem to have checked the amount of work to be done very accurately. He said he will check it and make sure the price is correct  He's a good lad, but got so much work on at the moment! - lucky in some...

    Tiled Skirting

Is it expensive? :? I am contemplating using tiled skirting in my new kitchen / orangery area to match the basalt slate effect floor tiles. The quote from the tiling company came back at £450 which I can only assume must be due to the floor area (44m²) - in reality only 12.8 m of edge...

    Drayton TRV4 numbers to temperatures

A bit caustic Tony  I'm well aware of the huge permutations of fluid dynamics that can occur in this situation... But a ballpark figure to work from is often all that is required in these sort of situations to get a good starting point  We don't need a CFD analysis of...

    Drayton TRV4 numbers to temperatures

If those values are correct it is a good starting point, so that people have some idea what they are dealing with. It is good to have some idea of the ballpark that the TRV is tuned to. With my first experimenting with mine I have found on one that 3 is turning the rad off at about 18ºC...

Tiling with marble can I use 2 different size tiles?

Hi - I'm wanting to put chocolate marble in my new bathroom. Seen some I like in B&Q. I like the large 305 x 612 tiles in a brick effect. It occurs to me that there will be many requirements for a 1/2 tile to create the brick effect - 305 x 305 are available in the same material - should I...

Alpha CB24 red light - no go... HELP!

My 7 year old Alpha CB24 is refusing to function at the moment. When it is turned on after a reset the yellow light flashes on and off as it should. When I try to draw some heat by either DHW or CH it gets all the way through fans, pump everything running, fires up the boiler flame for...
