    Joining a worktop

Thanks for the instructions. They may still be applicable, but I think in this case it's going to be a bit trickier. Check out my artistic rendition: This is how the old worktop slots together. As you can see, it's not your standard 90 degree join. The left piece needs to taper down...

Low rising main pressure - Help, please!

It worked! The ball valves were indeed crudded up. DIYnot.com to the rescue again! Thanks a lot for your help. :D

Low rising main pressure - Help, please!

Right. I turned off the stop cock on the rising main feed to the header tank - for some reason there isn't one for the main cold water tank. I took off the ball valve and tested the flow - bags of pressure. So, as youse suggested, the ball valves must be crudded up, so I'll clean them out -...

Low rising main pressure - Help, please!

Thanks, I can try that - only hesitated as it's got to be pushing 40 degrees up there! Is that really the only obvious explanation? Is an air lock simply impossible on the rising main?

Low rising main pressure - Help, please!

Hi all, I've just installed a new sink in the kitchen. To do so, I obviously needed to turn the main stop cock (in the street) off. I've now turned it back on and the sink taps work fine - bags of pressure. However, last night when filling up the bath, the flow of cold water stopped. I got...

    Joining a worktop

Hi All, We're about to fit a couple of worktops (one each side) to our galley kitchen. Cutting out the holes for the sink and hob sounds fairly straightforward - just jigsaw'em and seal up the exposed edges with PVA. Cutting the straight ends should just be a case of drawing a straight...

    Gas pipes obstructing new oven

Thanks John. I agree, if it's doable, getting a corgi in to redirect the pipe sounds like the best option. Please can you have a quick look at the photo below. For this to work, where the pipe comes out of the floor, I'll need it to take an immediate right angle towards the wall...

    Gas pipes obstructing new oven

Hi All, We're in the middle of refitting our kitchen, top to bottom. We bought all the bits up front, including a double built under electric oven to repace the old gas banger. Problem is, when we removed the old oven (should have seen this coming I know) we discovered the gas fittings...

Power shower - No cold water pressure

Never mind, got it working - just had to detach the shower head and let gravity do the work! Thanks anyway!

Power shower - No cold water pressure

Hi all, The house I moved into some 9 months ago has a power shower, which until yesterday had never skipped a beat. However, now when I turn it on, it doesn't get any cold water pressure. Hot is fine, but it's clear the cold just isn't getting through, as if I turn it all the way to cold...

    Leaky coving after steaming session!

Ignore me - it was a leaky rad valve!

    Leaky coving after steaming session!

Hi all, I've spent the last two days steam stripping the woodchip off the walls of the spare room. Yesterday in the early afternoon, I noticed water dripping from the coving on one of the walls below. I guessed it must be the condensed steam finding its way out, so I shoved a bucket under it...

    The notorious "decorator's cap"

Thanks for the offer Softus. Good (if blinking obvious ) suggestion - I'll get Drayton on the phone. Failing that, I may just take you up...

    The notorious "decorator's cap"

Hi all, I've inherited a rad valve which is short a "decorator's cap". Any idea if/where I can get hold of one? It's for a Drayton, TR4 I think - looks almost identical to this, but isn't labelled with the model number: http://www.warmrooms.co.uk/acatalog/draytontrv4.jpg I've tried B&Q...

    Fitting a room stat

Thanks Chris - it's almost common sense ;) Is it unusual to omit the room stat from an S-Plan? Haven't poked around yet, but can I expect there to be a short circuit where the stat should be? Rob

    Fitting a room stat

Hi all, I want to fit a room stat to my S-Plan system (it doesn't currently have one). Is it just a case of referring to the wiring diagram, killing the power and wiring it up? Is there anything else I need to know, given I've never done this before? Thanks in advance, Rob

Lukwarm rads - and only when the hot water is on

Hoorah! Replaced the motor and we're back in business! :D Thanks all, cheesy as it may sound I couldn't have done it without you. Cheers, Rob

Lukwarm rads - and only when the hot water is on

Excellent. I'll pop out tomorrow and see if I can get a new head/motor.

Lukwarm rads - and only when the hot water is on

With just HW on the grey wire is live. With just the CH on it's dead. We don't have a room stat, but I can confirm that when the CHis on, the brown wire is live. Dodgy valve then? I'm guessing it may well be the motor part, as I don't hear it wurr into action when I flick the CH switch on...
