Covering pipes in wall advice please.

Looking for some advice on what best to do. If cut a channel in my bathroom plasterboard wall to run some pipes . The wall behind the board is the original stone wall (old cottage). After I've run the pipe what is best to use to fill the channel - approx 6" wide, 2 feet long, 1" deep...

    Toilet fitting problem....

Hi, Amateur DIY person here so please go easy :-) I'm in the process of a complete bathroom refit and have a back-to-wall toilet to fit. I'm fitting a sink on the same wall so I bought a 90deg pan connector that has a 32mm boss on it for the sink waste. Problem is the soil outlet from...

    Geberit UP320 fitting advice please

Yeah I've considered that - I think that's the UP200. I think it's a bit too short. The toilet seat would probably clash with the flush plate on that model...

    Geberit UP320 fitting advice please

Hi, I about to start remodelling my bathroom and have a back-to-wall WC and therefore plan on boxing-in a concealed cistern. I'm not building a false wall to the ceiling, just boxing in to above the cistern install height so I'm left with a shelf of sorts about 6-8" deep. The Geberit UP320...

    Basin waste into pan connector

Hi all, I'm remodelling my bathroom and am moving the basin to a different wall - far away from the original basin (and bath) waste. I'm thinking of using one of these http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/Pan+Connectors/Space+Saving+90+Bend+with+32mm+Outlet/d20/sd2887/p88745 I've read...

    Building Notice Charge..??

Quick-ish question regarding the above. 1st off I'm not a builder and am new to all this ! I bought a house I'm refurbing. The lounge and dining room were already knocked into one many years ago. The plasterer noticed the 'beam' between the 2 is sagging and upon closer inspection noticed...

    I'm missing a ceiling joist !

Yeah boards are 12.5... Happy days then... I assume taping the ceiling to the wall is standard practice then & my plasterer will know that? Cheers

    I'm missing a ceiling joist !

I've just over-boarded an old lath & plaster ceiling in my bedroom by screwing through into the ceiling joists - so far so good... Except along one edge of the ceiling the nearest joist is 12" from the adjoining wall. I'm just concerned that after skimming, this 'loose' 12" would want to droop...

    Combi - Quick Question.....

Thanks for the reply. So is there a stat on the boiler as well as the room stat? What's the purpose of it? To prevent the boiler from overheating?? Thanks.

    Combi - Quick Question.....

Hi all, My Worcester 280 Combi has just had a new Sync motor fitted by an engineer as my Heating wasn't working but the Hot Water was. Seems a lot better but have noticed that the boiler frequntly switches itself off even though the temperature (set by the thermostat) has not been reached. A...

    Oiled wood floor marks...

Hi, thanks for the reply. It's only been down 18 months or so the colour looks more or less the same as it was when I laid it.

    Oiled wood floor marks...

We have a oiled oak floor but unfortunately got a couple of marks on it. One or 2 very small paint spots (only 2 or 3mm diameter) and a darker dirty mark. They came off easily enough with a light rub with a scotchbrite type scourer. The problem is we are now left with small 'lighter coloured'...

    Simple Joint Adice

Yeah I thought ´Batons' didn't look quite right! I think the wooden shelf idea might be the way to go to cure the rigidity issues. Thanks for the help.

    Simple Joint Adice

That's OK I don't think you're rude....You're an idiot and I can forgive that ! End grain doesn't look 'daft' and is actually a 'feature' of many pieces of furniture these days...and a remortgage for toughened glass - slight exhaggeration?

    Simple Joint Adice

Do you mean screwing from the front of the legs? How about if I screwed some batons to the underside of the top then screwed the baton to the hidden face (inside) of the legs? Would that be stronger? I must admit the lack of ridgity did cross my mind but I was hoping a strong enough joint...

    Simple Joint Adice

I'm thinking of making a simple oak corner TV stand since I can't find one I want anywhere. I'm not a carpenter and therefore don't have access to specialist tools etc so I really need some advice on some the best type of very simple joints, especially for joining the legs to the top but I...
